Create a simple trolley with your own hands

Is it worth trying to collect the thicknesser with your own hands? If you calculate the cost of consumables and working time, which must be spent to create this device, the benefits are not so obvious. However, the reliability of store appliances of economy class is much lower than that provided by the self-made plane, so it makes sense to start manufacturing it.

It is used in mechanics, as well as in work on metal and wood. With its help on the workpiece put equidistant scribing lines, transfer drawings to the part, use as compasses in carpentry and carpentry. Naturally, at home there is no sense in trying to manufacture a thicknessing machine, all the information given concerns the creation of a simple hand tool.

Manufacturing

So, what will it take to make a plane with our own hands? It is good to have at least a minimum experience in working with metal, if it is not - invite an assistant who can help you in this matter. Time will take a little work - about two hours. As for the materials, be sure to prepare the following:

• Brass solder;
• taps 4 mm;
• a piece of metal in the form of a letter "T" measuring 3.5 x 7 centimeters;
• Hexagon head screw size 4 x 8 mm;
• tube diameter 8 and 16 mm (5 centimeters in length);
• screw with a point of the same size;
• screw "lamb" 6 x 8 mm;
• a metal round rod with a diameter of 8 mm, 60 centimeters long;
• Screw with a corrugated head 4 x 6 mm.

The equipment will need:
• electric drill;
• taps;
• several dice;
• soldering iron.

The T-shaped metal part mentioned above, measuring 35 mm by 70 mm, is the main component of the thicknesser. In its central part, it is necessary to carefully drill a hole 8 mm in diameter, and then solder the tube there. The external diameter of the tube is 16 mm, and the inner diameter (the hole itself) is 8 mm.
A through channel is formed along which the metal rod will slide. Its length is 30 centimeters, and the diameter coincides with the size of the pipe (8 mm). At one end, an annular clamp is attached to the shaft. It serves to fix the pencil, which will be used for marking. Alternatively, an additional hole can be used, where a three-millimeter diameter tap is mounted.

At the opposite end of the tube, make a hole 6 mm in diameter with a thread under the screw "lamb", which is also called the adjustment screw. Its task is to fix the rod in the desired position.

From the end of the rod where the pencil clamp is located, a soldered ring equipped with a clamping screw is also attached. The outer and inner diameters are 16 and 8 mm, respectively. In the interchangeable rod, a pair of holes are drilled, one of which is through and has a three-millimeter diameter, and the second is intended for a locking screw 4 by 6 mm and has a thread M4.

Still need to drill two ends of the end of the T-shaped base, cutting the thread M4. There will be a screw with a knurled head together with a screw point, which will allow using the thicknesser as a compass.

If you decide to use the 3 and 4 mm tapes, be sure to sharpen their ends. When the assembly of the device is completed, paint the thicknesser with your own hands using a special paint for metal. Unpainted leave only the lower (working) part.

A small improvement made in the construction of the thicknesser will help speed up the process of marking. Just need to apply on the bars using a file millimeter scale.

Using the thicknesser, you made it yourself with your own hands or purchased it, remember:
1. When working with wood, tilt the pencil lead slightly.
2. When drawing lines on sheet metal, the flat surface of the thicknesser base must slide along the edge of the sheet.
