How to make a homemade long-burning furnace

The cost of energy, which is constantly rising in price every year, forces us to look for more acceptable options. And the laying of the same gas pipeline to a country house sometimes results in such amounts that it is sometimes cheaper to build another cottage. A homemade long-burning furnace can help in solving the heating problem. You've probably heard about similar solid fuel boilers, which in recent years have become simply frenzied popularity. Their problem is that not everyone has a desire to buy something like this for a country house, which is used irregularly in the winter.

Principle of operation

Unlike conventional wood-fired boilers, which require a sufficient supply of oxygen for normal operation, a self-made long-burning furnace is based on the exact opposite principle.

In simple terms, the fire burns at the top of the camera, providing a very long and energy-efficient process. Another advantageous difference is that the supply of the necessary (albeit in smaller quantities) for the combustion of oxygen is carried out not from the premises, but from the street.

What will be required for production?

Of course, the body of the device can be welded from sheet metal, but this method is associated with a number of difficulties. First, you need a good welder. Secondly, sheet metal of sufficient thickness is now expensive, and there is nowhere to get it.

Therefore, a self-made long-burning furnace can be made from a metal barrel. But where is the best option with an empty gas cylinder. The thickness of its walls is greater, and the quality of making seams is much higher. This means that such a stove will serve for a long time.

We work

Cut off the barrel, giving it the shape of a cylinder open on one side. In the upper part of the side we cut a hole along the diameter of the future chimney. Since the furnace for long-term burning is unlikely to be used in winter, its design can be simplified as much as possible.

Next, you must make and mount a metal piston. Take a piece of metal, the thickness of which should be not less than 4 mm, and cut out a disk from it. Its external diameter must match the internal diameter of your furnace, but you must leave some margin, given the thermal expansion of the material.

In the center of the cut disk, you need to carefully cut the hole, which exactly matches the outer diameter of the oxygen supply pipe . The elements obtained are connected by welding. Just make the top cover. Cut out a hole in it for the air intake pipe, we provide for some latch for a strong attachment to the upper edge of the barrel.

All homemade long-burning furnaces must be carefully welded, as a breach of tightness will lead to a decrease in efficiency.

How does it work?

In the barrel topped with all sorts of wood trash: pruning boards and branches, sawdust and small chips. To speed up the ignition process, you can lightly pour them with used oil. We ignite the fuel, after which we mount the piston with the air supply pipe welded to it. Put the lid on.

All! Your homemade long-burning furnace works. As the fuel burns out, the piston will fall under the weight of the pipe, not allowing too much burning.
