Antikytysky mechanism - the first analog computer

Ancient Greek civilization has always been considered one of the greatest in the history of mankind. Magnificent antique architecture, stunning statues and statues, the legendary ancient Greek epic and mythology. Until now, on the territory of Greece, archeologists are digging out new inexplicable finds, some of them are decoded at once, and over the destination of some scientists are racking their brains to this day.

In the spring of 1901, two diving ships sailed past Greece behind sponges. Deciding once again to try their luck in their craft, they cast an anchor near the Greek island of Antikythera. Imagine their surprise when, instead of the necessary marine animals, they discovered an ancient flooded ship! They dragged from the bottom of the sea some of the ancient objects to their ships and hurried to the mainland. Soon news of the ship found spread across Greece, and a year later a group of scientists went to investigate this place. Numerous archaeological findings were raised to the surface. Among other artifacts, the Greek archaeologist Valerios Staise found several bronze gears of incomprehensible origin.

Antikyterskiy mechanism, as it was christened historians of that time, was in a terrible state. The framework of the tree literally fell apart in their hands, metal, being for a long time on the seabed, bent and rusted. Many details simply disappeared. The inscriptions on the wreckage were difficult to read, sometimes erased. It was not possible to establish what kind of device it was. Scientists spread their hands and left the anti-Quiet mechanism to study the descendants.

About half a century passed. New technologies and methods of research have appeared. In 1951, the English historian and physicist Derek de Solla Price was interested in the ancient find. Having carefully studied the subject, he came to an amazing conclusion: the antikiter's mechanism was the oldest and the very first analog computer created in the 2nd century BC! It was a kind of mechanical astronomical calendar, with which it was possible not only to determine the positions of the Moon and the Sun, but also to produce complex astronomical calculations. At that time in Ancient Greece, the flowering of exact sciences was observed: a catalog of the starry sky was created, the distance from the Moon to the Earth was determined, the movements of five open planets were described, the approximate mass of the Earth was calculated . Against the backdrop of these discoveries, one can also believe in the existence of an astronomical computer, the creation of which is now attributed to the ancient Greek scholar Posidonius.

At the present time, the anti-Quaker mechanism is represented in the form of several operational reconstructions. Modern scientists are still deciphering this artifact. It was recently revealed that the antique device showed another important parameter for that time, namely, the time of the next Olympic Games, which were for the Greeks not only a sporting event, but also a political event. At this time, the anti-Quiet mechanism is located in the Athens National Archaeological Museum.
