"BMW E60" - the fifth Bavarian "five"

Production of the car "BMW E60" began in 2003. The novelty replaced the E39 and became the fifth in the lineup of the "fencers". The model was produced until 2010, when the German company decided to start the assembly of the sixth generation called F10. For all this time, more than one million cars in the sedan car and about 263 thousand station wagons came off the assembly line.

Appearance

The exterior of the car is designed by a group of designers, headed by Chris Bengl. The hood and front fenders of the model are made of aluminum. On the one hand, thanks to this, the machine is better protected from corrosion, and is also easier. There is also a negative effect from this decision for the BMW E60: tuning and car repair cost a round sum of money, because even the used parts are very expensive. Compared to the previous version (E39), the car became longer by 66 mm, while its wheelbase increased by 58 mm. The headlights are equipped with LED technology, so that the light spreads around each of the double lamps. Depending on the version of the equipment, different tires were mounted on the model. Daring lines in the silhouette of cars start at one point on the front of it and smoothly on the sides go back. Engines "BMW E60" represent a combination of harmony and unique obedience. All of them are equipped with the Double Vanos system, which is the company's own development. It is able to change the operating time of the valves, which allows you to increase not only the economy, but also the power of the car. Fuel consumption in power plants is so low that it ensures that the model conforms to the most serious world standard - ULEV II (USA). The flagship engine was the V-shaped gasoline "eight" with a capacity of 333 horsepower. As for the simplest installation, its role is played by a 2.2-liter engine, the capacity of which is 170 "horses".

Specially for power units "BMW E60" developed transmissions for six gears. Boxes provide instant hydraulic switching of speeds and precise control of the power of the car. Due to sequential switching, they are protected from premature wear. The most common transmission option for the model was the "automatic" Zanrad Fabric.

Other parameters and systems

In the production of most of the units belonging to the chassis of the car, high-strength aluminum was used. This allowed to significantly reduce the mass of the model and use the engine power as much as possible. The load distribution between the axes is almost 50:50. At the request of the customer for an additional fee model "BMW E60" could be equipped with an active driving system, the purpose of which was to change the power of the steering column, depending on the speed. Here it is necessary to note not only a highly efficient braking system, but also a number of innovations. In the event of a collision with any obstacle, the head restraints are forwarded in a split second, which helps to prevent sudden movement of the head and protect the neck. The headlights are controlled by an adaptive system that, when the car enters the turn, directs their light directly to the road ahead.

The iDrive concept provides the driver with easy access and control over the control devices. All of them are located next to the steering wheel or directly on it. On the central panel there are auxiliary devices. Moreover, thanks to the intuitive and logical structure of the controller menu, unnecessary devices are simply not needed here.

Cost

As it was mentioned above, production of "BMW E60" cars ceased in 2010. In this regard, you can buy it now only in the secondary market, where the price, as a rule, depends on the condition and mileage of the car. As practice shows, here the cost of a well-groomed car is in the range from 25 to 40 thousand US dollars.
