Concert Hall (Mariinsky Theater) - a new pearl of the Northern Capital

In the XXI century, in 2006 on November 29, in the northern capital there was another concert hall. The Mariinsky Theater was enriched with a wonderful room that arose in the historical walls of the Decorative workshops that burned down in 2003.

Built for ages

In addition to the walls, the fire did not regret anything - the internal premises, suits and scenery, including those that still go on the stage of the Mariinsky Theater, were burnt to the ground. But the historical walls of the building, erected in 1900 according to the project of St. Petersburg architect Victor Schreter, who made an invaluable amount for the capital, survived. Earlier, the architect rebuilt the building of the Mariinsky itself (after the fire of 1880) and did it so well that as a token of gratitude to him the ball was presented with a unique model of the building that was rebuilt by him, executed in silver.

From the last century to the present

Store decorations and premises Directorate of the Imperial Theaters, which on Pisarev Street, W. Schreter built in 1900. It was these buildings that burned down in 2003. In these unknown as surviving walls, VA Gergiev decides to build a concert hall. The Mariinsky Theater owned these premises since 1917. Part of the new building was erected behind the surviving historical facade, and the other that goes to the Decembrists' street, according to the architect Xavier Fabre's plan, was to represent the present century with all its architectural achievements, which caused "discontent of the city's defenders" raging in the northern capital And scolding. But there were a lot of business people who believed in the plan of the maestro, which would not have taken place without their help.

Quickly and efficiently

The construction of a new concert hall in St. Petersburg was carried out in record time - just a year the project was ready, a little more than a year was spent on the completion of the facility - and the Northern capital received a beautiful modern concert hall meeting all requirements and not inferior to foreign analogues. The Mariinsky Theater, replenished with such an amazing scene, has become even more attractive for residents of the city on the Neva River, and for its guests.

The original project - a worthy incarnation

To its construction, the best professionals of the world level were attracted - a group of scenography engineers (French company SCENE) and French experts on load-bearing structures (SETEC-Batiment office). Because of the need to accommodate the concert hall in a rather narrow space, but at the same time to meet all the conditions set (to make it according to the best world standards), the designers proposed a rather unusual form, combining in itself two types - an oblong rectangular showbox style and a concert The hall, consisting of stepped terraces, placed around the stage. In the construction of this concert site, everything was unique: the form of the hall, the methods of erection, the materials used and the mechanisms used.

The unique form of the hall and magnificent acoustics

The cradle has a concert hall of the Mariinsky Theater. The layout of the hall, attached below, clearly demonstrates this.

Mariinsky-3 is the only concert venue in Russia, it is planned initially. In Russia, there are no more such. It is comparable only to the best similar halls in the world, which do not have a dozen. "Mariinsky-3" is one of the names under which the new unusual concert hall is known. The Mariinsky Theater to create acoustics invited such a world-renowned genius as Mr. Yasuhisa Toyota (Yasuhisa Toyota). The acoustic systems of the concert halls of Tokyo, Copenhagen and Los Angeles were created by this world-class professional.

World famous festivals

Parameters of the hall, the main feature of which is its complete transformation, which makes it possible to use for various kinds of productions and events, are as follows. The capacity of the hall is 1110 seats (this includes the choir stage for 120 seats, which, when sold out, is given to spectators). The capacity of the stage is designed for 130 musicians. Here, as well as on the main stage of the Mariinsky Theater, international festivals such as "Stars of the White Nights", "New Horizons", "Shrovetide" and "Brass evenings at the Mariinsky" are held. In 2007, a brass ensemble of 14 participants was created under the leadership of Valery Abisalovich Gergiev. What is a brass ensemble? This is a team of musicians performing music on brass instruments (brass - in English "copper"), which include tools made of brass and silver. The ensemble is incredibly popular at home and abroad.

Organ Mariinsky-3

In 2009, the Mariinsky Theater Concert Hall (photo attached) was equipped with a magnificent organ. It was executed by the French firm Alfred Kern and Son (founded in 1953) and became the first organ for the century to come to Russia from France, and not from Germany. A few words can be said about the foyer, which is devoted to thematic exhibitions, giving information about concerts, festivals and performances that are on stage.

How to get there

Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theater, whose address - st. Pisarev, 20 (entrance from the street Decembrists, 37), is known to absolutely all music lovers and not only.
