Here you can add not only rotten, spoiled or wormy fruits and vegetables, but also the remains of food.

How to make a compost pit in the country

To begin with, it is necessary to choose a suitable location for the future "biofactory". It is desirable that it is not exposed to active sunlight. From them, the humus will dry up.

Compost pit, made by hand, does not necessarily have to look like a heap of soil humidified by the earth. It can be any capacity, filled with plant, organic waste, mixed with the ground. Although using for her a shallow long moat is the most common option. Compost pit, the scheme of which should assume the absence of a bottom, thus providing free access to worms, can have any size. However, its volume should not be less than one cubic meter, otherwise rotting will simply not occur.

In spring and summer it is desirable to cover the rotting compost with a film, and for the winter it is better to cover with snow. This will save the microorganisms and earthworms living in it from death , as well as support the optimal process of composting.

Full-value humus can be obtained only after one or two years. Therefore, it is desirable to have several "biofactories" in the garden. The compost pit, made by myself in the year before last, will give an excellent top dressing to the planted peppers and tomatoes this spring.

Periodic mixing of the rotting mixture - ventilation and aeration of the compost - will help enrich the oxygen and start a faster and more efficient decay process. And the variety of organic compounds and fertilizers present in the mixture will make the humus even better.

Nevertheless, you should not pour into the compost spoiled meat broths, milk, throw out sour cottage cheese or fish bones. This will contribute to attracting flies and the appearance of a disgusting smell. Such waste is best buried in the ground at a depth of ten to fifteen centimeters, somewhere closer to the apple, cherry or plum. Then the process of rotting will only benefit trees, and this is also a kind of compost pit.

With your own hands, you can make an unusual design of an ugly rotting pile. A real highlight of the site can be a decoration of climbing plants and flowers. Planting berry bushes around the perimeter of the pit will not only give a beautiful view of the site, but also protect the compost pile from wind and drafts.
