A simple electric car can be made with your own hands by fitting a screwdriver to a conventional pedal machine, which can be powered from a motorcycle battery. However, in this constructive scheme, there are many drawbacks, since brittle plastic has an unpleasant habit of falling apart from long exploitation.

In addition, the standard gear housing in this case simply does not have enough resources for any long-term operation, so that in any case you will have to upgrade and "fine-tune" the existing solutions.

Characteristics of the simplest car

As we already mentioned, the body is best taken from a conventional typewriter on pedal traction. If this is not possible, you can try to build something like that from plastic or even plywood. Doing an electric car with your own hands, you need to get a couple of engines from conventional screwdrivers. Reducers need to be taken from there, but for them it is necessary to make homemade steel cases. Output shafts are exposed on 201 bearings.

Suspension

We make the transmission

We have already agreed that as engines we will take those from the screwdriver. The reducer itself remains unchanged from the device, but the body must be turned out of steel on a lathe. The motors will transmit torque through a chain drive. The good thing is that there will not be any problems with this: at any bicycle shop you will find any asterisks in the required configurations.

It is difficult to speak about diameter. Take a smaller star - the speed will be higher, but also the wear of gearboxes, which are simply not designed for such loads, will also be much stronger. Needless to say, its large diameter will lead to unjustifiably high losses of electricity, since most of the time the mechanism will spin for nothing.

If there is such a desire, you can attach drums to the wheels for mechanical brakes. They can also be found in bicycle shops, but if desired and the availability of a lathe, they are easily made at home. In general, when assembling a quality self-made electric vehicle with your own hands, be sure to take care of access to the lathe equipment, since without it you simply can not make many details.

Bearings

But instead of regular bearings from the trolleys, you need to put 200 and 201 bearings with internal diameters of 10 and 12 mm. For installation, transitional enclosures are used, in the rear inner parts of which the threads for drums are made. Halves of the housings can be connected with a screed, fastening it with bolted connections.

Of course, if you have a normal lathe, then it's better to do without such tweaks, making all the details of solid steel blanks. This will be much stronger, and the reliability of such a design is not higher. And to do an electric car with their own hands for children should be done as reliable as possible!

Since we use electric brakes, the entire transmission is not very complicated. Parking brakes do not need. Keep in mind that you must use the car strictly under your supervision!

We make the chassis

The most complicated from the technical point of view is the knuckle-knuckle knot. It is better to take it from the "donor" pedal machine, putting the rubber stops of the wheel.

This will prevent unnecessarily sharp turns and tipping the car at high speed. Yes, this is also possible, since a children's electric car (it's not so difficult to make it by oneself) will in any case be obtained with a shifted center of gravity.

For limiters of rocking the body take ordinary rope traction, preventing the body from leaving the frame on the potholes and bumps. The front axle is attached to the swing arms. Since the weight of the machine is small, it is pointless to set any complicated transverse links. It is better to strengthen the springs of the suspension, which in this case easily withstand even two toddlers.

Instead of rocking levers, which are not so easy to find, you can apply two strips of stainless steel 1.5 mm thick, longitudinally fixed on the frame. However, it is worth remembering that you can not take a regular steel strip: it will have an excessively heavy load on its front parts, which will inevitably lead to deformation and destruction of the material.

To avoid such a phenomenon, the thickness of the front third of the bands should be increased by about 2/3, by welding a suitable steel angle bracket to it. In short, before you make an electric car with your own hands, pre-purchase all the necessary "scrap metal" in advance.

More about steering

The steering unit is made on the basis of the most primitive link structure. Having looked at the controls of any toy pedal machine, you will easily do something similar yourself. Steering tips are better to take ready, having bought them in an automobile shop.

Fasteners are similar to those used in the doors of cars. Rotary fists (as we mentioned) can be taken ready, but if necessary they are not so difficult to cut out a steel sheet 2 mm thick.

The levers of the steering represent one with them. The front part is bent in the form of a channel, welding to its front part the turned hollow axis. The pin can be easily turned from a standard "furniture" bolt. For the tie rods, a tube with a diameter of 8 mm is taken. Hinges can be found in a furniture store. Their strength is quite enough.
