Charging the car battery

The reasons for which there is a complete discharge of the car battery, a few.

Firstly, this happens if the energy users installed in the vehicle have been operating for a long time in the conditions of the switched off engine.

The second cause of discharge may be a short circuit that has passed through the contact to the housing.

Thirdly, the voltage indicator is less than 13.8 V when the faulty electrical equipment is operated.

The fourth reason is due to the negligence of the owner of the car, when the vehicle allows the use of such sources of energy consumption, which are not provided by the manufacturer.

Another reason is often parking the car for a long time (at least 20 days), if the negative cable has not been disconnected or if the battery has been stored for a long time without recharging.

Charging the car battery can be done in several ways, each of which is endowed with a special technical specificity. Before proceeding to their consideration, it is worthwhile to note that autoaccumulators have several features. They concern:

- the inconstancy of the internal resistance arising in the process of charging;

- the dependence of the quality of charge on temperature and current intensity;

- the change of various processes occurring inside the battery in the process of charging.

So, charging the car battery starts with connecting the charger. At the initial stage of the process, a relatively high electric current will appear, this happens because the device still has a small internal resistance. This indicator will gradually decrease, as electricity begins to accumulate in the battery. Simultaneously with the increase in charge, there is a decrease in the efficiency level, which drops from the 95% mark at the beginning of the process to 80% at its end. That energy, which is lost at this time, is spent on heating the electrolyte inside the battery.

Charging the car battery comes to an end when there is a so-called boiling. This is nothing more than the evolution of gases in the process of electrolysis. The current indicator of a charged battery is considered normal if it is a tenth of its total capacity.

Charging the car battery with direct current.

From the name it is clear that this method assumes a direct current supply to the battery with an unchanged value throughout the process. Such a procedure can be carried out in various ways, for example, using a rheostat, transistor circuits, adjusting the input voltage automatically or manually.

The advantage of this method is the ability to control the characteristic such as the charging time of the car battery , which can be calculated due to awareness of its full volume and the magnitude of the direct current.

In practice, the process looks like this, a battery with an indicator of 55 A / h must be infected within 10 hours. But after the 9-hour mark, the current should be reduced to 2, 75 A and continue the process for another 2 hours. In this way, the heating of the battery and the amount of gases released during charging are reduced, which will have a positive effect on the completeness of the charge and on the battery life.

Accelerated car battery charging

This method is used when there is a need to quickly charge the battery, it is recommended to use it extremely rarely, because it negatively affects the overall battery life. Accelerated process allows a charge of half an hour to a mark of 70% of the total battery capacity. It is important at the same time to monitor the temperature of the battery and if it reaches 450, the process should be stopped immediately.

As a result, I want to give some recommendations for the operation of the battery.

1. It is necessary to carry out a full service of the battery before the beginning of winter cold. If the car is not used in winter , do not put the battery in heat, it is better to leave it inside the car, after removing the terminals.

2. Do not leave a discharged battery in the frost, because the electrolyte with low density will freeze, which will render the battery unusable.

3. Negative consequences can be caused by overturning of the accumulator and, as a result, drainage of the electrolyte. This causes the plates to close, which will also make it impossible to continue using the battery.
