Book review plan

When a new film or book comes out, society is looking forward to the critics' response to the work. This kind of article is called a review. For some reason, many people think that to write such a thing, you do not need much intelligence. This is by no means the case. Each work has certain criteria, varieties, as well as a plan for writing a review.

What is a review?

The word "review" was introduced into the use of the literary language at the end of the XVIII century and meant "inspection". Today, a review is a genre of literary criticism, publication and bibliography. In fact, this is a critical essay, where you can find a brief analysis and evaluation of a certain work. An indispensable feature of the review is the availability in the publication of information about the role of work in the modern world.

The person who writes the review is called a reviewer, and his main task is to give a reliable and impartial description of a work, which, in fact, is difficult to achieve if there is no review plan.

Typology of reviews

The review is written for different types of creativity, that's why the specialists offer three variants of their classification. First, critical articles differ in the object, that is, in the original work. It can be musical, literary, theatrical or commodity reviews. Do not forget about the films.

Secondly, they differ in the subject, that is, in the one who is the author of the review article. It can be:

  • Expert assessments. Reviews written by masters of their craft.
  • Consumer feedback. Work written by the consumer of the product.
  • Review of the order. Such reviews are distinguished by the fact that they are "bought" by the authors of the works themselves. Often such reviews are subjective, although there are rare exceptions.

Thirdly, reviews differ in the volume and number of analyzed works. And all of them are compiled according to what review plan the author chose for his work.

From theory to practice

Podnatorev little in theory, you can turn to the issue from a practical point of view. In the review the main thing is to evaluate all the good and bad that is in the work, and this requires a high professional level. To be a little clearer, it is worth looking at the standard plan for reviewing the book:

  1. Bibliographic characteristics. Here you need to specify the title of the book, its author and the release date, as well as two or three sentences to convey the content.
  2. Direct recall. That is, you need to describe your own impressions of what you read.
  3. Criticism. Comprehensive text analysis . It is necessary to give a description of the name. Analyze the content, matching the genre. Write how the author displays the characters, and do not forget to mention the stylistic features of the performer.
  4. Actually, the evaluation. It is necessary to reasonably assess the relevance of the work and draw conclusions.

Tip

When you have a review plan before your eyes, it's much easier to work, but do not neglect some useful tips.

In the review, it is necessary to pay attention to whether the dialogues of the actors correspond to the declared genre. You can also write how much the story was entertaining. Do not lose sight of the tonality, that is, the "uniformity" of the text. It is certainly worth noting the grammar and artistic delights of the author, this will be a good incentive for his future work. It is perfectly permissible to describe your own emotions, which were inspired by the work. Such a device will make the work "stronger" than a prepared review plan. The work should be filled with a detailed presentation of their thoughts, but you should forget about the short exclamations of admiration - they do not fit for the review of the book.

Practical example

Using a review plan and tips, you can try to write a review of the literary work. Take, for example, the work of Akutagawa Ryunosuke "In more often."

"The work of Akutagawa Ryunosuke" In More often "saw the world in 1922 in Japan. In it the author tells about the committed crime and four versions of how it happened.

At first glance it seems that in history there is nothing entertaining. You turn the first page, read the testimony of the first witness, then the second, the third. Nothing special. Not boring, of course, but not a masterpiece. But when a line comes up for the testimony of a true criminal, a strange explosion takes place inside the consciousness. All four versions suddenly gather at one point, and an understanding of why the heroes did it is coming.

Only after reading the work of Akutagawa it is clear that it is by no means detective. After all, the author does not need to look for a criminal, he shows the subjectivity of human behavior. But nevertheless the text is not devoid of food for thought. Whose testimonies can be considered reliable? Human qualities and position in society play an important role in giving testimony. The text is written in a simple and understandable artistic style. Does not lose its uniformity with "every testimony".

This work was written on the basis of the legends of the 13th century. In 1992, the novel received recognition, and the story was put in the basis of the film Rasemon. With the urgency of the work is difficult to argue. At any time the work "In more often" will tell its readers that each person has his own view of the problem. "

About the film

But some books do not end the world of modern entertainment. Every day around the world, one film of different footage comes out, to which you need to write a review.

The plan for reviewing the film differs slightly from the "book version":

  1. The catching title. Since the film industry is more in demand than literature, then without an unusual title, the review will not be noticed.
  2. Data. To begin with, it is worth mentioning the main facts about the film. If for the book it was necessary to indicate the author and the release date, then for the film it is necessary to write about the director, the genre, the actors (only the names of the main characters) and, of course, the title and the release date.
  3. Brief narration of the plot.
  4. Additional story. Actually, here it is worth writing about the moments in the film that "hooked". Express your own emotions and feelings.
  5. Technical question. In the review it is necessary to indicate how the film was shot, what were the scenery, special effects, costumes and how much this pleasure cost.
  6. Conclusions. For whom this film is intended and what it encourages.
  7. Appeal. Conclusions can be supplemented with a call to action. That is, we can say that the film will be interesting and useful for all (or a certain contingent).

Literature is criticized equally

As you can see, the review of the film differs from the review of the book, but only in the sense that these are different works of art. In one, the word is used, and in the other, the video is recorded. If we talk about literary works, then the plan for reviewing the story and the book will be virtually indistinguishable.

It will also need to specify the title of the story, the author and the release date. Write a few suggestions about what is narrated in the work. A little information about their impressions of what they read. Analyze the text and draw conclusions.

The only thing you can find a distinctive feature is that in the review of the story it will be actual to discuss the correspondence of the title to the work. And reinforce the conclusions with quotations from the text. This technique is used because in such works it is much less than in full-fledged novels. Hence, excerpts from the text find much easier.

In addition, it has long been thought that the names of novels fit the books a priori, even to confirm it is not worth it, but stories always have controversy.

Afterword

What is a review? How to write a book plan and a good review-tip? In school, institute or professional activity, sooner or later you can encounter such a task. And it's better to be ready in advance than hurry to find the pieces of information scattered across the Net.

Each reviewer should be remembered: do not stint on emotion, praise or criticism. The author should see an objective evaluation of his work in order to know what is to be worked on. And the consumer should understand, what emotions are expected by him and what will be interesting for this or that work.

The review is not just a criticism of the book, it is a professional review of the work that directly depends on whether the work will be interesting to the consumer or "drown", without waiting for glory.
