Suspension of "Lada Grant": description, malfunctions and ways to solve the problem
"Lada Granta" is one of the cheapest and affordable cars on the Russian market. The car is built on a common platform with the Kalina and has similar technical characteristics. Any suspension is part of the running gear of the car. Its main purpose is to provide an elastic connection between the body and the wheels due to vibration damping. In the car "Lada Grant" suspension is slightly different in the front and rear. Therefore, we will consider each element in detail below.
Front suspension "Lada Grants"
There is an independent suspension with lateral levers and a stabilizer of lateral stability. Vibration damping is performed by hydraulic shock absorbers. The main structural element is the stand. It includes a swivel bearing, shock absorber and a spring. In the latter, turns of variable diameter are used. The spring itself is made of a metal rod with a circular cross section. It can have variable and constant stiffness.
Support pillars, too, modified. The crease of the suspension from the "Lada Grants" appears much less often than on the "Kalinas" and "Priora". To reduce the rolls in the design, the anti-roll bar is provided. It is made of spring steel. The stabilizer is installed by the ends to the bottom levers of a suspension bracket. Its middle part is fixed on the body.
What else was changed in the Grants suspension?
The angle of rotation of the steered wheels was also increased. The caster's angle is now 2 ° 45 '. This move significantly increased the stability of the car at high speeds. However, the steering wheel became more "heavy". This is especially noticeable on models without an electric amplifier. By the way, the steering uses a short rake.
Rear suspension
Unlike the front, it was virtually unchanged. Here, as well as the first Soviet G8, a semi-independent beam is used. It is attached to the body on hinges (good, there are no "crabs" in the design). A helical spring with constant rigidity is used as an elastic element. For damping the oscillations and preventing the build-up, two shock absorbers are used.
- High reliability. In the design there are no additional levers, which in addition can be bent when hit in a large pit.
- Energy intensity. "Lada Grant" perfectly swallows all irregularities, especially if the rear mounted oil shock absorbers.
- Cheapness of service. Due to a simple design, this suspension can be "touched" even with their own hands. And the cost of new rubber-metal elements is unlikely to devastate the pockets of even the meanest car owner.
The main difference between the "grant" suspension is in the corners of the wheels.
Shock Absorber
This element is a quenching device. The shock absorber serves to reduce the range of vibration of the body of the car. In other words, the element prevents spontaneous buildup. The shock absorber function is based on the hydraulic resistance. Inside it there is a liquid of a certain viscosity. It moves through a special valve. Thus, the device extinguishes sharp impacts, while retaining vulnerable suspension parts. Therefore, the shock absorber is one of the most important components in the running gear. On our roads, this element serves a distance of 60-80 thousand kilometers. But this period may be shorter, even with a neat manner of riding. It is enough only to damage the protective boot, and all the dirt will accumulate in the stem seal.
Also note that the quenching element changes in pairs. That is, in case of a breakdown of the rear left, the rear right shock absorber also changes. As for the front racks, they are more "tenacious". Often they change already in collection with a spring, because they fail not earlier than 150-200 thousand kilometers.
Silent blocks
To 100 thousand silencers of cross-beam and lower levers go out of order. Symptoms of a malfunction are a dead knock on the front suspension of the Lada Grants. Motorists recommend to change these elements for polyurethane.
Also fail silencers of the anti-roll bar. These bushings also change to polyurethane.
Ball bearings
These elements are installed in the top and bottom of the front suspension levers. Balls are used to turn the steering wheels and move in the desired direction. The item consists of:
- Shells.
- Plastic liner.
- Control hole.
- Protective cover (anther).
Cause of malfunction
The main cause of the failure of the element is a violation of the airtightness of the anther. Once it starts to crack, dirt and dust will get inside. They act on the ball as an abrasive. As a result, there is a backlash and the support begins to break in itself. Is it possible to repair it? The suspension of "Lada Grants" is arranged in such a way that the ball valves are not subject to recovery and are changed entirely to new ones.
Wheel bearing
This element serves to evenly rotate the car's wheels. On the "Grant" there are 4 such bearings. On average, their resource is 100 thousand kilometers. What are the signs of a malfunction? The main sign is a characteristic buzz during movement. It can be amplified if the car enters the turn. The buzz can occur from either side of the car, depending on which bearing is crumbling. He is changing in the assembly for a new, and unimportant, rear suspension of the "Lada Grants" this or the front. Pressed out with a puller with special paws. Pressing takes place on a vice. It is important to comply with alignment when pressing. If the bearing is crookedly installed, it will be subjected to high loads and can crumble after a thousand kilometers.
