"Betadine" ointment - features of application

"Betadine Ointment" is an antiseptic drug that acts against certain bacteria, fungi, viruses and microbes. After the ointment is on the surface of the skin, iodine is gradually released, which has a bactericidal effect. Within 20-30 seconds after the application of this remedy begins the destruction of proteins of microorganisms, and their death occurs in a minute. Iodine, which is present in this drug, does not have such irritant effects on mucous membranes and skin, as in alcohol solutions.

Indications for use

When treating infection, the ointment is applied to the affected area up to 2 times during the day. The duration of such treatment should not exceed two weeks. Contraindications

Ointment is not applied if there is an increased sensitivity of the body to iodine, hyperthyroidism, renal insufficiency, during pregnancy, at the age of up to one year, with breastfeeding, adenoma or thyroid dysfunction.

Possible side effects

After using this ointment, hyperemia, itching and rash may appear. In some cases, blood pressure may decrease and choking may appear, hyperthyroidism, which is induced by iodine, is also possible.

If you allow the simultaneous use of the drug "Betadine Ointment" and antiseptics, hydrogen peroxide or enzyme preparations that contain auloridine and silver, this leads to a mutual decrease in the effect of these agents. Also it is impossible to apply the ointment together with mercury preparations to prevent the occurrence of alkaline iodide of mercury.

Overdose with "Betadine Ointment"

Symptoms of an overdose of the body with this remedy will be the appearance of metallic taste in the mouth, pain in the mouth or throat, metabolic acidosis, heartburn, increased salivation, renal dysfunction, laryngeal edema, anuria, pulmonary edema, circulatory insufficiency , hypernatremia, irritation and Edema of the eye.

If the ointment was allowed inside, it is necessary to urgently enter products containing protein or starch, for example, dissolve starch in milk or water, and gastric lavage is also performed .
