Belarus: area, population, cities

Countries of the post-Soviet space, for the most part, are not small in size and number of permanent residents. Belarus was not an exception in this matter, the area of which can not be considered insignificant. This article will deal with the main settlements of this country, its geographical features and population.

Position on the map

The Republic of Belarus is on the European continent, in its eastern part. Its immediate neighbors are Russia, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland. The total length of the state border of Belarus is about 2 969 kilometers. The coastline is completely absent, the largest river is the Dnieper, and the lake is Naroch.

Climatic conditions

Belarus (its area is 207,600 sq km) is located in the belt of the temperate continental climate, which, in turn, is characterized by a relatively mild and fairly humid winter and a warm, also humid summer. The average annual precipitation is about 600-700 mm.

Hydrological features

What area of Belarus, we have found out. Now it is worthwhile to elaborate on the rivers and lakes of the country. About 20 000 rivers stretched on the territory of the republic, 93% of which are considered small (the length of each of them does not exceed 10 km) and 11 000 lakes. Belarusian rivers are filled with atmospheric precipitation. There is also a large number of meliorative canals. In addition, there are 1,500 small reservoirs and 150 large artificial reservoirs in the country. In the marshes, in turn, live a lot of animals and birds, which are listed in the Red Book.

Administrative Centers

Studying the cities of Belarus by area, we note that the capital of the state is Minsk, which, in turn, is the largest settlement (its size is 348.84 sq. Km).

At the second position is the city-hero Brest with an area of just over 146 square meters. Km.

The third position was "staked out" after the city by the name of Grodno (142 sq. Km.). This is followed by Gomel, Vitebsk, Mogilev, and Bobruisk.

At the same time, only the capital is a city in which the number of permanent residents has exceeded one million people, while the next Homel after it gave shelter to only half a million inhabitants.

Features of customs control

Belarus, the area of which is guarded very closely by the border guard service, is quite a hospitable country for residents of the states of the former Soviet Union. These citizens are not required to issue a visa. And it is quite enough to have a passport of a citizen of your country with you. For the same people who plan to enter the republic on their own car, there must be a so-called Green Card.

As for the import of foreign currency, it can be imported into Belarus in any amount, but the amount of over $ 10,000 should be declared in order to avoid possible problems with the law. If you are traveling with your favorite animal, you will certainly receive written permission from the veterinarian and phytosanitary representatives.

Demographic situation

To date, in Belarus, there are almost 9.5 million people. According to forecasts of experts, the outcome of 2016 will not be very comforting for the country, as it is expected that the natural increase in population will be of minus signification and will be within 23 367 people. But at the same time people who enter the republic for permanent residence are supposed to be more than emigrants abroad.

According to the statistical department of the United Nations, the area of Belarus is 207,600 square kilometers. Km, taking into account the number of people living in this area, the population density is 45.8 people per square kilometer.

The indicator of the overall demographic burden in Belarus is 39.4%, which is a very low value, because it reflects the situation of the positive ratio of the number of able-bodied people to the number of people who are not able to work. That is, the burden for society in the country is minimal.

Communication in the Republic

Belarus (the population, the area was mentioned above) has three major cellular operators, including MTS, Velcom and Life :). The purchase of a SIM card from any of the representatives of the mobile communication world will require a person with a passport. It is worth noting and the highest quality of communication, calls can be made almost everywhere (exceptions can only make up impassable areas of forests). As for the mobile Internet, in large settlements it operates on the basis of the LTE standard, while in small cities 3G operates. Free Wi-Fi is a pleasure that is mostly available in cafes and hotel complexes. In addition, in virtually any post office or kiosk, you can easily purchase a card that provides access to a Wi-Fi network called Beltelecom. With its help, you can connect to the free Internet almost everywhere.

Security

The whole of Belarus, the area of which can not be called small, is a safe country. In many respects this is explained simply by the colossal number of police, although some explain this fact by the national peculiarities of the Belarusians - their upbringing and tranquility. But, be that as it may, we can say with confidence that you can safely walk through the cities of the republic until late into the night, not worrying at all that someone will attack you to rob them.

Spa treatment

The health resorts of Belarus are very popular places in the tourist environment. Of course, many of the working sanatoriums are not cheap or modern, but all of them effectively perform the functions assigned to them. Although it is fair to say that recently in the republic more and more health resorts have entered a new, higher level of service, which is quite in line with the current European standard. Among the most developed resorts are such: "Priozerny", "Ozerny", "Ruzhansky", "Alfa Radon".
