Sights of Salekhard: what to see in the city?

Salekhard is a small, pleasant town with beautiful courtyards, cozy streets and an amazing atmosphere. Not everyone wants to come here and enjoy it. But believe me, this city is definitely worth your visit. And now let's see what exactly is worth seeing when you come here. What are the attractions of Salekhard need to visit?

Reindeer

The monument to this animal was established in Salekhard not by chance. Deer are common in this city, and residents are not at all surprised when they meet an animal on the street. It is also very symbolic that he looks at the other side of the river - the old and the new city. The deer seem to unite the era of life in the neighborhood with man. This animal is for the locals, and for other northern peoples, the same friend as the dog for us. Deer - almost the only way to move around this area. Now it is clear why this is one of the main and significant attractions of Salekhard.

Apartment LV Laptsuya

Opened in 1994, the museum is dedicated to a well-deserved worker of culture of the RSFSR, and concurrently to the German writer Leonid Vasilievich Laptsuy. After visiting here, you can see all the literary heritage of this person, as well as his everyday objects, documents, photographs and books. But it's not enough to just look at the interior of the room and the exhibition. A mandatory item in the trip to Salekhard should be a visit to one of the literary evenings devoted to the writer's work. Only after such an evening you can go with peace of mind to explore other attractions of Salekhard, a photo with a description of which can be found in this article.

District center of national cultures

The center opened in 1987 is the organizer of the majority of events and holidays in Salekhard. Any visitor comes to see the exhibitions taking place in the main building of the center. Here you can see the products of talented people made of beads, stone or fur, as well as many other interesting things. Such an exhibition will be an excellent beginning, continuation or completion of the program for sightseeing of the city of Salekhard.

The Arctic Circle

In fact, this monument was originally called "66 parallel", but people for some reason call it "the Arctic Circle". The monument is a double pyramid, divided in a semicircle in the center. The monument was opened in 1980 in support of the fact that the city is crossed by the line of the Arctic Circle. This fact explains the popular name of this landmark of Salekhard.

And the real name of the monument comes from the coordinates of the beginning of the Arctic - 66 degrees, 33 minutes and 39 seconds of northern latitude. Initially, it was made of iron, standing on a concrete foundation. In the evenings, illumination around the monument was also included. In 2003, the monument was replaced with the same one, but made of a glass-polymer composite. This was done in order to prolong the life of the "Arctic Circle".

Well, having looked with my own eyes at the proof that this city is the only one on the planet crossing the line of the Arctic Circle, one can move further along the sights of Salekhard.

Cable bridge "Torch"

This bridge, passing through the river Shaytanka, which divides the city into two parts, was opened in 2004. This incredible attraction of Salekhard, the photo of which you will find below, is definitely worth a visit. You can not only see the unusual propylae, but also dine in a posh restaurant located on the bridge. And also you can look at the incredible effect of the bridge hovering over the water.

Hockey players

This three-meter monument dedicated to hockey players was opened in 2001 in addition to the Ice Palace - one of the best in Russia. The monument is two hockey players made of metal. The author was the famous Omsk sculptor Victor Pogodin. Eyewitnesses of his work were surprised by the speed of execution and the excitement of the sculptor. And the results of this excitement you can see with your own eyes upon your arrival in Salekhard.

Mammoth

In 2005, at the very entrance to the city, a monument to a mammoth was erected. Why mammoth? Because here and in the surrounding regions, many remains of mammoths are found. For example, the mammoth Luba, who was found on the river Yuribey in 2007. According to scientists, she was about 6 months old. Also on this river, the most "young" mammoth, whose age is 9600 years old, was found.
