Moon stones are one of the varieties of feldspars. They are colorless, gray, green, pink, brown or yellow. They are even transparent, up to the translucence. The highest quality representatives are those who can boast of a small number of internal turbidity and cracks. Even better, if they have a tide of bluish tinge. One of the distinctive characteristics of such stones is the so-called effect of adularecence. It consists in an unusual color game , which is the result of the germination of two adjacent feldspars, characterized by different refractions.

Places of production

When answering the question as to where to pick up the moonstone, first of all it is necessary to designate the places of its extraction. The deposits, where the most high-quality representatives are mined, are located in South India and Sri Lanka. In our country there is such a variety as oligoclase. In its finest specimens, the tide in the stone is seen both deep inside and on the surface. On the other hand, almost all of them are opaque. Domestic lunar stones are pink, green, gray, brown or colorless. Most often they can be found in a variety of products - beads, cameos or other ornaments.

Magical properties

Since ancient times people have connected these stones with something mystical. It was believed that they are solar antagonists and concentrate in themselves a positive lunar energy. The ancient Romans generally assumed that lunar rocks are formed under the influence of the moon's light. In the US, these feldspars are valued as highly as alexandrite with pearls. According to European beliefs, they denote wealth, longevity and good health, and in India it is believed that such stones bear hope. In Britain they believe that some of their specimens give their owners the power of persuasion and a high level of oratory. It is believed that the natural moonstone helps to strengthen the memory of a person and teaches him to overcome life's troubles and difficulties. On the other hand, for those who are unnecessarily dreamy, capricious and self-contained, this spar is dangerous because it aggravates these negative traits. Many folk healers are advised to wear such stones in silver, especially those who are intolerant of others. This makes a person more cautious in their expressions and words, and also prudent in deeds.
