Amazing and beautiful Scandinavian Peninsula

The Scandinavian Peninsula is the largest in Europe. It is characterized by an interesting history and picturesque landscapes. To understand where the Scandinavian Peninsula is located is not difficult, because the name speaks for itself. It is washed by the Baltic, Barents, Norwegian and North Seas. On its territory are three countries: Sweden, Norway and northern Finland. The border dividing Sweden and Norway is served by mountains, as well as forests, rivers and lakes on the peninsula. Its length from north to south is one thousand nine hundred kilometers, from west to east - eight hundred kilometers.

The Scandinavian Peninsula derives its name from the term "Scandinavia" Which, in turn, comes from "Scania" - the so-called region in the southern part of the peninsula, which was previously part of Denmark, and now is part of Sweden. People settled here twelve thousand years ago, which is archaeological evidence.

The Scandinavian peninsula is located in different climatic zones: its climate varies from subarctic in the north to sea in the south. The highest temperature recorded on the peninsula is 38 degrees Celsius, the coldest is 52.6 degrees Frost. One-fourth of the peninsula is outside the Arctic Circle, while ninety-four percent of the population lives south of the Arctic Circle. In the Arctic Circle there is Cape Nordknin - the extreme point of the northern continent. Here, in the mountains, is the largest glacier in Europe.

The Scandinavian peninsula occupies most of the Baltic shield, which also includes Finland, the northeastern edge of Russia and the bottom of the Baltic Sea. Many centuries ago the stability of the Baltic shield began to decline, which caused a slow flooding of the terrain. When the ice finally melted, the shield plateau began to rise, which continues to our time. The coast, part of the Baltic Sea, is constantly on the move. Its rise is approximately one centimeter per year. However, the other side of the peninsula is constantly lowered. For many thousands of years the Scandinavian peninsula was completely in glaciers. Over time, taia, they led to the formation of the famous Norwegian fjords.

Most of the Scandinavian Peninsula is covered with forests with pine and Spruce trees. There are also mixed and deciduous forests. They contain a variety of species of animals. In the forests there are many different birds, in the sea a large number of species of fish. There are many protected places and parks. These objects are very beautiful, therefore Scandinavia with its remarkable places, extraordinary beauty and uniqueness is a favorite place for thousands of tourists.
