Adenomyosis: Symptoms, Causes and Treatment

The common form of endometriosis is adenomyosis. What are its features? What is adenomyosis? This disease is characterized by abnormal growth in the walls of the uterus, its muscle layer.

In the old fashion, adenomyosis is often called uterine hyperplasia.

The mechanism of adenomyosis formation

In case of failure in the system of immune-hormonal regulation, endometrial cells (the mucous membrane of the uterus) with blood flow can penetrate into places outside their main localization and become fixed in such tissues that, under normal conditions, should not contain hormone-dependent cells. In response, a protective reaction to the invasion takes place in the muscle of the uterus. This is manifested by the thickening of the tissue bundles in the places where the endometrial cells have fallen. The muscle tries to limit the spread of the invasion and ingrowth process. In this case, it increases in size, and accordingly, and the uterus grows, acquiring a spherical shape. These processes cause adenomyosis, the symptoms of which are similar to chronic inflammation, edema and the progression of the pathological process in the body of the uterus.

Complaints of patients depend on the localization of these cells and are associated with the growth of the muscle layer, i.e. With hyperplasia.

Adenomyosis. Symptoms of the disease

Complaints in this pathology are typical for many diseases. Adenomyosis, the symptoms of which are nonspecific, usually manifests itself:

  • Pains in the lower abdomen before and after menstruation, as well as during menstruation;
  • Bloody dark secretions outside the menstrual period;
  • Heavy menstruation;
  • Disorders of the menstrual cycle;
  • Pain during sexual intercourse;
  • An increase in the size of the uterus body;
  • Pronounced premenstrual syndrome.

One of the manifestations of the disease can be infertility. Symptoms of adenomyosis do not go unnoticed, and patients are often forced to consult a doctor.

Causes of the disease

It is suggested that most often the cause of the disease are immune and hormonal disorders, intrauterine developmental disorders, difficult opening of the cervix in young girls with menstruation, etc., but until now the exact causes of adenomyosis have not been established.

Doctors-homeopaths believe that the appearance and progression of the disease affects the reduced immunity of patients. Those women who suffer from chronic infectious ENT diseases, as well as diseases of the digestive tract (gastroduodenitis, biliary dyskinesia, pancreatitis), this pathology is much more frequent and is more severe.

Direct exposure to sunlight increases the risk of "adenomyosis", the symptoms of which are also intensified by exposure to radiation.

The most prone to the disease are women who had previously undergone surgery on the uterus or other surgical interventions: scraping after miscarriage or abortion.

All these reasons can cause a malfunction in the hormonal system.

Diagnostics

Diagnosis of adenomyosis is carried out using ultrasound of the small pelvis. For a more thorough examination, hysteroscopy, laparoscopy and hysterography are used.

In this case, experts determine the most minor deviations in the hormonal and immune-allergic background of a woman, and also analyze the work and condition of the digestive tract, urinary and nervous systems. It is important to conduct a study of the vagina, oral cavity and intestines for the presence of dysbiosis.

Treatment of adenomyosis

For today in medicine the surgical and conservative technique of treatment of this disease is applied. The main goal of the operation is to eliminate foci of adenomyosis and restore the shape and size of the uterus. With a conservative method, medications that normalize the activity of the immune and hormonal systems are used. The treatment takes two to three months.

Most often, women's attempts to cure adenomyosis alone lead to an even greater violation of the immune-allergic and hormonal background and only exacerbate the problem.
