Abriety: landing and leaving. Types of plants and subtleties of cultivation

Aubereta belongs to the genus of flowering plants of the Cabbage family . It came to us from southern Europe and the Middle East (Iran, Asia Minor, Italy and Southern France). It has become widespread throughout Europe as a successful decoration of gardens and rock gardens. A flower named after the French artist Claude Aubry was named, which had a predilection for botanical illustrations. Let's find out what is good about a shade? Planting and caring for this plant will also not be left out of our attention.

What does the obryta look like?

These plants are characterized as evergreen, perennial and creeping. Their branches do not rise above 10-15 cm above the ground, forming expressive hemispherical puppets. The leaves are small, pubescent, with a dentate or whole margin, resembling an ellipse or an egg in shape, arranged one by one, alternately. The plant looks impressive at any time of the year, and even when it does not bloom, all the same pleases the owners with green juicy leaves. Flowers four-petalled and small, not more than 1 cm in diameter, forming small racemose inflorescences. The genus includes 12 species of plants, differing in the shade of petals: red, pink, purple, blue, rarely white. This is such a multicolor - a shade. The photos of flowers presented in the article allow you to make your own opinion about this ornamental plant.

Common species in Russia

The most popular is the cultural aubrieta (Aubrieta x cultorum Bergmans), which combines several varieties and forms that differ in the coloring of the petals. The shoots of the plant do not exceed 20 cm, the leaves are small, with jagged edges, spatulate-oblong. Flowers are small (about 1 cm in diameter), different colors - from purple to dark purple. During flowering (about 40 days, from May to June) the leaves are not even visible under a dense layer of bright inflorescences. Grades derived at the present time are characterized by larger petals, double branches.

Aubrieta deltoidea is the ancestor of all hybrid varieties, as it yields fruits. Their purple or purple-blue friable racemose inflorescence pleases the eye for 30-35 days also in May. They are distinguished by more dissected deltoid gray-green leaves with a pair of prongs on each side.

Flower of the Aubrieta: choice of a place for planting

What place does this plant prefer? Necessarily sunny, penumbra is allowed only in hot southern climate, and in moderate it will only bring harm: the erytha will stretch out and cease to bloom. Soil must be light, not too fertile. They fertilize it with ashes, lime or chalk. It is necessary to avoid overmoistened clay and oily land with a high content of peat. In the winter, moisture is simply disastrous for flowers such as the oberite. Planting and care of the plant are carried out on elevated areas, well drained and stony hills, in between the stones. Watering is required only for young plants, and then - only in a particularly arid time. Exceptions are southern areas, where it is very hot summer.

How to grow a colorful "rug"

Have you decided that your site should decorate the shores? Planting and caring for the plant will give you a lot of trouble, remember this. It can not be planted and cease to follow the development, otherwise very soon the flower will cease to perform a decorative function. There are three ways to reproduce a shade:

  1. Cuttings. Cut off parts of plants are planted in a greenhouse, in soil from river sand and peat (in equal amounts). Many species take root in 95% of cases under conditions of artificial fog, and some varieties give roots in only 25%. At the end of August, rooted petioles are transplanted to a permanent place, so that they take root there before the onset of the first frost. It is recommended to maintain a distance between the bushes 10-15 cm. The most valuable specimens are best left until spring in the greenhouse. Young plants only in the first year of life are frost-resistant and easily tolerate the cold, in the future it is desirable to conduct cuttings each year.
  2. Propagation by seeds. They sow in the ridges in the open ground under the winter (in September). Mandatory mulching sand. Flowering occurs in the second year. Reproduction in the room is possible: seeds are sown two months before the supposed last frost (from January to April). Vermiculite with seedlings covered with a plastic wrap. When the seedlings come up, the film is removed and, after the end of the frost, is planted in the soil in a permanent place. Note that when the seed is reproduced with a seed, the varietal properties are not preserved.
  3. Reproduction by bush division. It is produced in rare cases in the spring or autumn, if there was no cuttings or you need to urgently move the bushes. The plant reacts extremely painfully to such a procedure.

Features of care

For many summer residents and lovers of guiding beauty on private plots, it will not be difficult to plant flowers of a shroud. Cultivation, produced under careful control, is also easily accomplished. But this does not need to stop, the plant needs constant care. Even if the soil on which the ridge grows is light enough, it is very useful to carry out a superficial application of sand (mulching) in a 3-5 cm layer 2-3 times per season. When flowering ends (in May or early June), the plant is pruned to promote rapid and compact growth in the future. In this case, in autumn you will again admire the colorful inflorescences. If the winter is predicted to be protracted, with sharp temperature fluctuations, it is worthwhile to cover the oberite with a dry sheet for this period.

Helpful Tips

  1. Buy seeds should be in the spring, and getting seedlings, pay attention to the roots did not sprout from the holes in the bottom of the pot and did not intertwine.
  2. As fertilizer, manure and mineral nitrogen can not be used (it reduces winter hardiness).
  3. Long-lasting are varieties with blue and violet petals, but pink and red flowers are pleasing to the eye not so long.
  4. A blossoming carpet on the edge of the curb or in the rock gardens looks just gorgeous. But this is by no means the only way to design a site with a plant such as a shark. A cascade of bright inflorescences descending the fence or the wall of the building is sure to cause astonishment and admiration!
  5. Aubereta is perfectly combined with other creeping plants: blue and violet flowers are planted with yellow rocky alissum, multicolor spurge, white and Caucasian rose rosa, basilocular red soap. Pink and red harmonize with dwarf bearded irises, Douglas phloxes or Pozharsky's bells.

Connoisseurs of floriculture will certainly find the right approach to the plant of the oberite. Landing and care will not give them special inconveniences, and a bright carpet of small flowers will delight the hosts and impress guests.
