Where in Moscow metro Shabolovskoe?

The phrase "metro Shabolovskoye" is quite often found in advertising and in all sorts of commercial advertisements on the sale and lease of real estate in one of the Moscow districts close to the city center. Many are already so used to it that they do not even think about the fact that such a toponym as Metro Shabolovskoye simply does not exist on the city map. Try to find it on the scheme of the Moscow Metro. There is no such station on the orange Kaluga-Riga line. And if it does exist, it is called a little differently.

Subway station "Shabolovskaya"

Both the fate and the appearance of this well-known station are rather unusual. This section of the Kaluga-Riga line of the Moscow Metro named after Lenin was erected in the early sixties of the last century. And it was designed much earlier, and the station on the section between "October" radial and "Leninsky Prospekt" was planned.

But in the process of building this segment of the line from the construction of the station it was decided to refuse. That is, the station itself was built in 1962, but it was decided not to put it into operation. There were great technical difficulties with laying inclined escalator tunnels in difficult geological conditions. And the passenger flow in this area was expected to be quite small. As a result, the station stood in the form of an empty underground volume for about twenty years, trains swept through it without stopping. This is how the "Shabolovskoe metro station" turned out, which seems to exist, but it does not exist at the same time.

And in the number of operating stations entered only in the autumn of 1980, when technical problems were overcome and a decision was made to put it into operation. This is the reason for the fact that the exterior of the station differs markedly from neighboring ones, which were built two decades earlier. In a constructive sense - this is a three-vaulted pylon station of deep laying. The prevailing finishing material is gray granite, the traveling walls are decorated with corrugated aluminum. The conceptual design of the station is connected with television and radio broadcasting, and many elements of the design echo the Shukhov Tower, which is located at the top. This famous tower is not only expressive, it was a symbol of the era of architectural constructivism.

Metro "Shabolovskaya", Moscow

At the exit from the metro we get to one of the oldest districts of Moscow, not far from the Garden Ring. This place has its own unique history and geography. Once there was a historical district of the Kaluga outpost, and it is associated with a lot of events both in Moscow and in Russian history. Today, when we exit the metro, we get to the old Moscow streets - Shabolovka and Academician Petrovsky. Once on Shabolovka the first Soviet television center was located, and Shukhov's openwork tower served as its broadcasting device. This fact was reflected in the thematic stained glass that decorates the interior of the metro station today. This place in Moscow is very prestigious. Many realtors can testify that those wishing to move closer to the "Shabolovskoe metro station" are much more than leaving this area.
