Wolverine looks like? Wolverine: description, appearance and claws

In nature, there are many different animals. However, it is almost impossible to know them all, as they say, in person. In this article, let's talk about an animal such as wolverine: what does this animal look like, where it lives and how it feeds.

General information

First of all, it should be mentioned which family this beast belongs to. So, the wolverine is the representative of the cunies. In this rather large group there are a lot of small animals, but only badgers, otters and, of course, wolverines represent a discharge of medium and even large ones. Knowing to which group the given zwiot belongs applies, it is still not necessary to draw conclusions about its appearance. If other representatives look rather fragile and to some extent even elegantly, then about wolverine this can not be said. Another interesting fact is that there are only two species of this animal on the territory of Russia: European and Eastern Siberian wolverine. The same name of the beast is familiar to most residents of the country, but in the Altai the wolverine is called simply yeken.

The size

We go further, studying such an animal as a wolverine. How does the beast look like, we'll look a little below, but now let's talk about its dimensions. Outwardly, it looks quite like a bear, but it is much smaller than a club-foot. Wolverine is about a German shepherd. As for the length of the trunk, it is from 70 to 105 centimeters. And this is without a tail, which is 18-23 cm. The height of the beast in the shoulders can reach 40 cm. The paws are also massive: the length of the rear foot without claws is approximately 14-16 cm. As for the weight, here the numbers will also be quite - These are impressive. The average weight category of this animal is 10-12 kg. However, by the autumn period some individuals can "bend" up to 20 kilograms (which, in principle, is a rarity).

Appearance

So, what is she - a wolverine? What does this animal look like? Outwardly, it is quite massive: a heavy shaggy beast with short, but strong paws. Its foot is wide, somewhat resembling a bear, but smaller. The tail is relatively short. However, due to thick wool, it may seem voluminous and quite large. The head of the animal is small, the ears are neat, small.

What a coat!

Considering the description of wolverines, it is impossible to ignore the wool of this representative of the animal kingdom. By its nature it is rough and quite long: the size of the hair can vary in the range from 150 to 250 mm (especially on a well-dressed tail). The fur is thick, lush, on the paws and head, as a rule, shorter. What does a wolverine look like, that is, its wool? The color scheme is basically dark brown in color. However, on the animal there are two small light "harnesses" that go along the sides of the body, from the head to the rump, capturing the ass. Paws cover beautiful black and shiny fur. But there are also individual characteristics with regard to the color of various animals. So, there are individuals whose skin color is characterized by a beautiful transition from light to darker brown tones. Autumn molting of wolverines is little noticeable, it lasts a couple of months - from August to October. In the spring, the animal resets fur more actively, it occurs approximately in March-April.

Appearances are deceptive...

She's such a wolverine. How does this beast look like? Perhaps, after all that has been read, many will think that the animal is clumsy and heavy by nature. However, such a conclusion can not be called correct. Impressive dimensions absolutely do not prevent him from being dexterous, strong and to some extent even flexible. Wolverine perfectly climbs trees, moves mostly jumps and a little polubokom. This beast is very hardy: without hurrying up, even by the deepest snow, it can pass more than a dozen kilometers.

Nails are the main weapon

Wolverine claws are also an important element. They need this beast for hunting. Before the powerful paws with sharp hooked claws, even the wall of a wooden storage pool in which hunters harvested and stores meat reserves can not stand. What can we say about the soft tissues of the victim ...

Food

It will be interesting to find information about what the wolverine feeds on. The animal can eat dead animals without problems, however, despite this, it is an excellent hunter. He can catch both a small hare and small ungulates. Excellent stamina allows him a few days to pursue even a deer, getting after a certain time the desired prey. Most often this happens in the winter, when the wolverine can drive its victim into a snowdrift, at the same time thanks to its feet it does not fall into the snow itself, and there already finish off the prey. Often there are situations when the wolverine tries to take away food from another animal, and it should be noted that it is not so rare for her, and all thanks to her teeth and claws. It will be interesting to note that this beast is considered to be a medic of the forest and has gained fame from hunters, since it can independently rescue animals from the trap in order to eat them.

On the way of life

In themselves, wolverines - single people who do not lead a sedentary life, all the time roam (except - it's time to bring the offspring, then the animals make themselves "dwellings", similar to the lairs of bears, the tunnel which can reach even 40 meters!). However, they never leave their territory, the area of which can reach 2000 square meters. The site must be marked to scare off other males, the same wolverine females always welcome. Although this beast is a loner, there are situations when several wolverines (males), in order to drive a large prey, can be combined into small groups of two or three individuals. Having done business, having eaten fifty times of food, they disperse in different directions. Also, the beast does not have a single routine. Charter, he can get enough sleep even during the day, climbing into a hollow or just falling into the snow. Also these animals like to rest under the branches of spruce or fir or in a small comfortable moon in the snow. The most active wolverine at night or during dusk - before dawn. These animals live in the forests, but during the time of the hunger strike they can go to the forest-steppe or even to small plantations, which in other circumstances is unusual for this beast.

Valuable beast

Every hunter knows what a wolverine looks like (he does not need a photo for this). Because of their skin, this animal is very appreciated. From his fur, excellent hats are obtained, on which frost is never formed. The hunting of the animal we are considering in Russia is allowed, coinciding with the timing of fishing for other furs: approximately from October-November to February-March. Otherwise, wolverine is prohibited by law, and this fact is considered poaching.
