Why do not tomatoes blush? Tips for truck farmers

A unique symbol of the successful harvest for each summer resident is the number of ripe tomatoes harvested from the root - red, yellow, orange, and other shades that determine the commercial maturity of a vegetable of one sort or another. But there are different circumstances when, it would seem, when all the rules of agrotechnics are observed, tomatoes do not turn red for a long time, but glossy and elastic hang on branches, but, unfortunately, they are green. The reasons for this phenomenon and how to help your favorite vegetable to reach the highest degree of maturation, our publication will tell.

So, the question of why tomatoes do not blush, there are several answers. Let's start by considering the most probable causes. They usually lie in the flaws of care for planting or in the wrong arrangement of ridges or greenhouses.

Where to Plant Tomatoes

Tomatoes are light-loving plants, and the shortage of solar energy immediately turns into a slowdown in the development of culture. Therefore, at the planning stage of the garden, a place for them is chosen open, sunny, protected from through winds. The same principles are observed when installing greenhouses or greenhouses. The main factor in creating normal conditions for the maturation of tomatoes is constant access to sunlight. Orientation to high-quality natural light is the key to the absence of many problems in the subsequent cultivation of tomatoes, otherwise one should not wonder why the tomatoes do not blush in the greenhouse.

Use of supports, trellis and garter

Even with the correct placement of greenhouses on the site, plants need the care of the gardener, so that later the question does not arise: "Why do not tomatoes blush?" For maximum illumination of each bush, additional supports are used that fix its optimal position. It can be trellises, on which it is easy to turn each stem to the sun, or garters with a soft cord to the beams stretched from above or additional stakes. Low-growth varieties of tomatoes are fixed with spacers.

Observance of the optimum temperature regime in the greenhouse

For the comfortable development of tomatoes, the temperature factor is also important. When the temperature of the air in the greenhouse drops to 14-15 ° C or, conversely, its increase to 35-40 ° C, the plants stop the development, and the fruits do not turn red, but acquire an atypical orange color with an uneven yellow-green fringe around the stem. Why do tomatoes not blush at the stem? This happens when a violation of the temperature regime provokes the synthesis of lycopene, a coloring pigment-antioxidant of the carotenoid group. Similar problems with the coloration of tomatoes can occur and with sudden changes in day and night temperatures or when the fruits are in the hot open sun, when they simply cake. That's why tomatoes do not blush at the stem. To reduce the temperature of the air in the greenhouse, ventilation, the installation of protective awnings or any other temporary structures help.

Maintaining the optimum humidity level in the greenhouse

Tomatoes are hygrophilous plants and welcome sufficient watering, but the air in the hotbed should remain dry. Increased moisture, dew or condensation on the leaves adversely affect the development of culture, provoking the emergence of diseases that are traditional for tomatoes. To such include and late blight - a known scourge of solanaceous cultures, capable of destroying plantings in a matter of days. It is clear that with the appearance of phytophthora, it should not be surprising that tomatoes do not blush. What to do to prevent the disease? The main condition is the maintenance of a dry microclimate in the greenhouse and the treatment with special preparations for prevention as well as for the first signs of the disease. Use in these cases, infusion of garlic or hot peppers, as well as funds coming on the market in a huge range.

Excessive thickening of plantings or bush: remove leaves

Plant the plants at a distance of 45-50 cm from each other. Planted closer to the specified interval, the plants begin to oppress each other, literally fighting for a place under the sun. Therefore, you have to maintain the right distance when planting in the spring.

The thickening (as a reason why tomatoes do not blush) is manifested in insufficient care of the bush. Experienced gardener know how many forces take away from the plant leaves, especially those that have already served their time, faded and drying up. But not only they. From the stem up to the fruit brushes, all leaves, both green and obsolete, must be removed.

Growling stepsons as a cause of thickening

Another condition for the early ripening of the crop is the rationing of the formation of fruits, ie, the question "why do not the tomatoes turn red" will become natural, if the time does not stop growing new flower stems growing in the axils of the leaves. After all, tomatoes are very strong plants, hurrying to reproduce as much fruit as possible, and their maturation can be stretched for an indefinite period, because all the strength of culture is cast on the formation of new shoots. Therefore, the horticulturist is forced to direct the energy of the plant in the correct direction, that is, to fill and ripen the fruit. Stephens, rapidly transformed into peduncles, should be cut off 2-3 times a week.

In early August, the tops of all tall varieties are pricked, flower stems and twigs are removed with unbound inflorescences, and from medium to low-growing tomatoes all flower brushes. Thus, the forces of the plant will be concentrated on the filling of already formed fruits. However, even after this procedure, stepsons appear with an enviable regularity, so periodic pinching is carried out by gardeners all the time.

Insufficient nutrition of tomatoes

Lack of nutrients can be another answer to the question of why tomatoes do not blush in the greenhouse. If all agricultural techniques are used by the gardener, fertilizers are introduced at certain times, and the plant still does not rush to give up the mature fruit, experienced gardeners recommend using a familiar and effective microelement - iodine. Iodine supplementation is foliar and is carried out by spraying the leaves and fruits 2-3 times a week. The working solution is prepared as follows: 35-40 drops of pharmacy 5% iodine are dissolved in 10 liters of warm water.

Ways to accelerate maturation

Understand why tomatoes do not blush, to the end is not always possible. But there are very effective ways to stimulate fruit ripening. They are based on the properties of plants to activate forces in the event of any threats. So, it is noticed that the mechanical effect, which results in restriction of nutrient access, stimulates the maturation of tomatoes on the root.

These methods include, for example, a small through cut at the base of the stem or a slight tightening of its wire. The result of such operations is a reduction in the inflow of necessary nutrients to the plant and activation of fruit ripening. A similar effect occurs also with partial breaking of the accessory roots, which is carried out by a small jerk of the stem up to the audible rupture of the roots.

These very barbarous methods show good results, forcing tomatoes to ripen faster, but creating comfortable conditions for the development of culture is still preferable.
