Very often in the street, especially in the evenings, we find a beetle with long mustaches. The reason for its speed is understandable: sometimes procrastination can cost an insect a life, therefore it tries as soon as possible to disappear from a place of detection by the person. These rather small insects have become known and popular precisely because of their segmented mustache, which can exceed the length of their own body several times (usually 2-3 times).

Some argue that the beetle with long mustaches has appeared for a very long time, and by today has only evolved. As already written above, the barbel lives on almost every continent, except for Antarctica. Thus, many species are present on the territory of Russia, Canada, Brazil and Europe. It is worth noting the fact that the best barbel feels in the equatorial, subtropical and tropical belts, so their maximum number falls exactly on Brazil, that is, South America.

Males differ from females with length of antennae, and also jaws. In males, the jaws are usually slightly forward and more square in shape, whereas females have a rounded nose, jaws and smaller antennae. It feeds on a beetle with long mustaches, mostly bark of trees. It can not be said that they damage the flora too much, because they spend a lot of time downstairs and picking up leaves, larvae and various other beetles and spiders of smaller size.

The "communication" of the beetles is also considered to be original, which, in case of danger, produces some wheezing-sucking sounds. If we draw an analogy, then this sound can be compared only with a piece of rusty metal, along which a no less rusty nail is carried out. And the sound is reproduced at a sufficiently low frequency, which the human ear can hear.
