White gold, whose composition is impressive

Nobles met noble metals in ancient times. This is evidenced by excavations of ancient burials of Egypt, Spain, and the Caucasus. Noble metal gold was named because of its unique brilliance and ability not to oxidize under the influence of air.

On the magnetism of gold, legends were composed, it was not without him and in fairy tales. What is this precious metal, and how does it happen? Soft and plastic, expensive and insanely beautiful - these properties of gold are familiar to every schoolboy. But the fact that every time gave birth to its kind of this noble metal, experts know more. In addition to the usual color - yellow, gold was black and white, red, blue and green, but the last two, created by modern jewelers, are too fragile, because they are not used on their own.

White gold, the composition of which is not very complicated, was particularly popular in the 30s of the last century. Precious stones always demanded a rim, for this fine ordinary yellow gold was fine , but diamonds and pearls needed something special. Then the question arose about the possibility of lightening gold. It is believed that only in white setting a diamond is able to start playing at full strength. In addition, the jewelry will be the ideal decoration of any outfit, only if the stones will frame white gold, the composition of which must be found out.

What did a person use to brighten a precious metal? At first it was silver, then additives of nickel, zinc and copper were used. From the percentage ratio of gold and ligature (the above metals) depended on its hue. Most often it was yellowish. But the bluish radiance of the product acquired when it included alloys of gold with precious platinum or another platinum metal - palladium.

Platinum has been known to mankind since the sixteenth century. At first, nobody paid attention to this metal (in Spanish, it means "silver"). But today everyone knows that platinum is much more expensive than gold. This is due to the lack of jewelry stores in the shops wherever the stone frame would be noble white gold, whose alloy composition should contain at least eighteen percent of platinum or palladium. The price of such a product increases many times, which makes the manufacture of jewelry unprofitable. The exception is the exclusive things made to order. The same thing that we see in the windows of our stores - is (most often) an alloy containing nickel, is far from the most harmless for the human body element of the periodic table. Its price is much lower - this is a decisive factor in the production of jewelry. But we must remember that white gold, whose composition includes twelve percent nickel, can cause all sorts of irritations on the skin and even an allergic reaction.

The sample of white gold depends on the percentage of gold and ligature. One gram of alloy 375 samples, for example, contains only 37.5 percent of gold proper, everything else is additives. Of course, the price of such a product will be low, and it will not be considered jewelry. It's just costume jewelry, fading in the air.

Platinum and palladium give white gold a noble hue, while other impurities, mentioned above, make it duller. In order to make the products shine, jewelers use the process of rhodium-plating. The precious ornament is covered with a thin layer of rhodium, metal from a series of platinum, perfectly reflecting light and giving shine, which gives the white gold item the status of exclusivity and elitism. But, if over time, your favorite jewelry has lost its original appearance, do not despair. The thin coating can be restored in a jewelry workshop, where the precious thing will be returned to the former beauty, and you - a fine mood.
