Delphinium flowers - a variety of species

Delphinium, otherwise called the flesh or spur (Delphinium), is a herbaceous plant from the family of buttercups. It is very common in the Northern Hemisphere, in China and in the mountains of Africa. It counts about four hundred and fifty species only in the wild. As a garden plant looks great either in the center or on the perimeter of the garden because of the height of 1.5 meters. In the vastness of Russia delphinium flowers show more than a hundred species of the most diverse color palette. Like soap bubbles frozen in the air - shades of blue, pink, red, blue, white, purple. Large inflorescences are visible from far away and look in a massive plantation like a colorful sky at sunset of the day. And you want to grow a delphinium! A photo is only worth seeing once, and ask hands for a shovel right away!

Methods of reproduction - for and against

Demonstrating its magnificent flowers, Delphinium inspires gardeners for more and more new feats. There are three ways to reproduce this beautiful plant. The first is growing from cuttings. The second is by dividing the bush. And the third - from the seeds. Most often the bush is divided. Cuttings allow you to get a lot of new shrubs, and varietal characteristics are preserved. When multiplying by growing seedlings from seeds, the dolphinium suddenly acquires a completely unexpected shape and color, retaining only the species features, the maternal ones most often do not inherit. And the process itself is very, very troublesome.

How to divide a delphinium

The most effective way of reproduction is division of the bush. This is done when the flowers delphinium no longer promises, that is, in August, and not earlier than the third year of life. You can divide the bush in early spring, when the first shoots start to appear. When dividing the rhizome, you need to dig it completely, cut off all rotted or dried parts, then divide the root with a dangerous razor or a very very sharp knife so that each part has at least one strong shoot. Small and weak pieces of rhizome can be given a chance to survive by planting them in a pot. Strong will survive in the ground, too. After a month and a half, the plant will fully recover after this brutal but necessary operation.

Cutting

For the cuttings, you do not need to dig out the plant completely, as it is done in the division, you can simply scrape the ground off the ground. This is done in the spring, when the shoots grow ten or fifteen centimeters. It is necessary to cut off the shoot directly at the root neck with a sharp knife or a pruner, having necessarily grabbed a piece of rhizome. The cuttings are immediately planted in clean sand of centimeter by two. You can use any box for this purpose. If the cuttings are planted immediately on the bed, then they need to be shaded, then they will take root faster and without loss. Then all the first week after every two to three hours the cuttings need to be sprayed, then - less often, but still several times a day. And then weeks after three new delphiniums will get accustomed. And flowers will be added in the garden!

Delphinium from seeds

The germination of the delphinium seeds is quickly lost, so it is necessary to sow them right in the collection year. Some sow fresh seeds in autumn in boxes, cover with a film from the drying out of the earth and leave it on the balcony. In the spring, the dolphinium sprouts massively. You can sow in the garden, choosing a sunny place, and cover for the winter with leaves. The grown seedlings are planted, waiting with interest for what flowers this time will grow, as it is useless to guess, surprises are ensured.
