Garlic seeds: when to plant and how to grow?

Garlic is considered a popular vegetable plant in many nations of the world. His fame is due to the sharp aroma and peculiar taste. This culture is indispensable in cooking, so amateur gardeners are constantly planted and cultivated on their beds. Due to its strong antiseptic effect, the plant is also widely used in medicine. As a rule, garlic is planted with seeds and teeth.

Types of culture

In nature, there are two forms of such a vegetable, among them spring (non-stalking) and winter (nestling and non-spilling). Non-arrow varieties can be bred only with denticles, and early summer shooters shoot out from the middle of the bulb a flower-bearing ovary, in which a single bulb (sometimes up to 50 pieces) and flowers are formed. Such formations are similar to onion teeth.

When to plant garlic seeds

This plant differs from other crops also in that it can be planted both in autumn and in spring. In the first variant it is called winter, and in the second variant it is spring. In cold countries, vegetables are mostly planted in the fall, and in hot countries - in the spring. In the first case, the teeth are deepened into the soil already slightly sprouted. Spring planting should be done as soon as possible. In ideal - the ground should not dry after melting snow. Only in this case it is possible to get rather large heads.

Vegetable growing from the teeth

This method is the most famous. And how to grow garlic from seeds? To do this, you must first choose the right location. The best for a crop are considered beds after legumes, cucumbers and cabbage, the worst - after potatoes and onions. Plant garlic plant in the same place advised only after 3-4 years.

Before planting in the ground, it will be necessary to make top dressing (reparted manure or compost). Do this in the fall. Then it is necessary to prepare the bulbs, it is good to revise them, remove the spoiled ones and disconnect them. This is already done just before landing. The vegetable is planted about a month before the persistent colds. This should be done so that the culture has time to take root, but has not given the tree.

How to plant plants

To plant garlic seeds in the future was successful, it is required to prepare the beds for a week. This is done so that the soil does not have time to descend (in the damp ground the teeth settle very deeply). The interval between the teeth should be at least 8-10 cm, the space between the lines - 40-50 cm. After planting, ideally fill the ground with sawdust or peat, so the vegetable will survive the frosts better. However, if the winter is warm and not very severe, you can do without the powder.

The spring planting of the plant does not differ much from the winter one: only its approximate depth is 5 cm, and the distance between the rows is 25-30 cm.

Care

Cultivation of garlic from seeds occurs without abundant, especially daily irrigation. Its frequency is 1 time in 6-7 days. The first watering simultaneously with the fertilizer is made at the end of April or with the onset of May. The second feeding is done in June, and for 2-3 weeks before harvesting the fertilizing must be completed.

When arrows are formed on the vegetable (some of them are allowed to be stored for seeds), they need to be removed. And it should be done carefully, so as not to spoil the vegetable. Do not forget about the timely weeding, because garlic, like any plant, loves freedom. Therefore, there should be no weeds on the ridges.

How to grow a seed culture

Breeding garlic seeds (bulboccus) is considered one of the best ways to get quality seed raw, free from various diseases of the vegetable. Some even specially cultivate bulbs to have one big tooth. To grow them, you can resort to one of two ways: plant in the spring or winter. By and large the effect will be the same, except that the winter bulbs will be slightly larger.

How to prepare for planting

First of all, it is necessary to understand how best to obtain the expected bulbs. It is necessary to shorten the arrows of the winter plant first, only to make them well ripe. The vegetable itself rises in March, and the numerous formation of arrows takes place towards the end of May.

Cut the arrows correctly with the arrival of June, as this is an ideal period for the seeds of garlic winter to grow freely, and the culture itself was larger in size. To obtain quality bulbococcus arrows should be cut off somewhere at the end of June, after the 20th. By this time, the film, under which the air bulbs are formed, will dry and crack - this is the sign for the removal of stems. At the end you will need to dry them thoroughly in the shade. Bulbs can last 2 years without losing their qualities.

How to Plant Garlic with Seeds of Arrows

Before the onset, the air bulbs must be removed from the inflorescence by selecting the largest ones. Sowing should be done from September 7 to October 15. In July, next year, of all the bulbocks, a single-volume, large volume will form, which will be an excellent seedling for planting the crop for the winter so that large bulbs can be grown.

First you need to create beds for growing vegetables from bulbots about 12-15 cm in height and up to 90 cm in width. The ground is prepared in this order:

  • On 1 square. M make 3-4 kg of humus or compost and 1 tbsp. L. Superphosphate;
  • All dig up and level the ground on the ridges;
  • Then opposite the beds make tracks to a depth of 3-4 cm;
  • The intervals between the depressions should be 10 cm;
  • Bulbochki must be placed in the groove in the interval of 1-2 cm one from the other;
  • Then you need to cover the paths with soil and leave it for the whole winter.

If severe winter is to be, it is possible to mulch the beds with sawdust in 2-3 cm layer. With the arrival of spring, when the earth thaws, the sawdust should be removed. Now, for certain, many already understood when to plant garlic seeds.

Care

To the plant is not frozen and not rotten, there must be enough snow in the winter on the ridges. If the winter was a little snowy, it would be necessary to snow the shovel with a shovel on the vegetable garden. Then in the spring, as soon as the snow melts, immediately appear the shoots of culture.

If there is practically no rain in the spring, you need to water the garlic. A young plant is also needed in fertilizers, after which it is absolutely necessary to loosen. For the first time, we should feed the vegetable with Nitrophus (15 g per 1 sq. M.) In mid-April, the second fertilizer - Ammofa (the same dosage) is introduced in June, at the stage of bulb development.

To finish watering the culture is required 3 weeks before harvesting. In June, it will be necessary to cut off the arrows at the plant, which lower the yield. This should be done when the height reaches 5-8 cm. Do not pull out the arrows, but gently break them under the third sheet, so as not to damage the seeds of winter garlic.

Taking into account the excellent bactericidal characteristics of the vegetable, it can be planted next to other plants to prevent their diseases.

Harvesting

Scoop out the bulbs after fading ¾ of the inner leaves. Winter culture, as a rule, ripens by the end of July. Dig up the vegetable after the main portion of the lower leaves turns yellow. Beforehand for check it is necessary to take 2-3 heads of garlic from the soil. Bulbs should be sufficiently developed and firm. Harvesting is carried out with forks, poddevaya kom soil with the plant and pulling it outward with his hand.

Dug up vegetables are required for several hours to put along the length of the bed for drying. Cropping leaves at once is not worth it so that you can plant garlic seeds next year. The existing arrows should be trimmed. And the leaves themselves are shortened after drying.

In a culture intended for use in food, the roots are removed. Experienced gardeners believe that it is more correct to not keep the plant in the ground, rather than overdo it. Just unmelted bulbs can absolutely mature after corroding, the overripe same ones fall apart on the teeth and remain much worse.

Principles of growing a vegetable

When planting seeds of garlic, now many have become clear. However, we need to find out exactly how to grow the culture so that it yields a generous harvest. There are some useful tips for this:

1. First of all, cultivate good bulb. For these purposes, the arrows are left on some plants grown from the largest teeth. The remaining stems should necessarily be broken off to increase the volume of garlic heads. The left arrows are initially twisted into a spiral. They will unbend individually, and the final straightening will signal the readiness of the harvest.

Under collection are the heads of the vegetable and bulb. When harvesting, the unharmed culture is preserved. Escape is pulled into a bundle and hang it in the attic to dry for 3-4 weeks. Plastic substances from the leaves and shoots come to the bulb and bulb, expanding their volume. After drying, the head of the bulb should be divided so that the cover is not damaged. If it is broken, it will no longer be possible to plant the garlic with seeds.

2. Correct seating of bulbots. Planting them is allowed in both autumn and spring. If there is a plan for planting in the spring season, the beds should be harvested from autumn, as digging them up in April will be very difficult.

When autumn planting bulbochek there is a possibility of freezing part of the grains, others may find themselves on the surface. Such seeds are squeezed out by frost. In spring they must be backed into the soil. During the spring sowing season, the drying of some bulb spots will be a frequent problem, and planting garlic seeds in the future will not be easy. After all, it will be very important how bulbs survived in winter.

Before sowing, they are sorted into grains and kept for 1-1.5 months at a temperature of no more than +5 degrees. To do this, the refrigerator will do. Otherwise, the vegetables will be green, and also continue to form until the end of autumn.

3. In time to harvest. Garlic is excavated when its leaves begin to turn yellow. It happens somewhere in the middle of August. The vegetable itself is dried for 3-4 days under the sun's rays, protecting from dew. Then the plant is bundled into bunches, dried in an attic. Single-edged fish will be a remarkable planting stock for the fall and will be given a harvest in the form of large heads.

Thus, you can safely take up the planting of this healthy vegetable. After all, now everyone knows when to sow the seeds of garlic.
