Ancient Greek legend says that the Earth decided to create a rose when she first saw Aphrodite. The Aphrodite, emanating from the sea foam, was so beautiful that the Earth wanted to produce something like it. And the roses remained white until the beloved Aphrodite was mortally wounded. The desperate goddess ran to his quest for stones and thorns, staining with his blood the petals of roses in scarlet.
