Which state has a white-green-red flag? What do the colors of the flag mean?

The combination of green, white and red can be seen in state symbols quite often. It seems that everyone knows what flag is in Italy, but other variants with a similar combination of colors are not familiar to everyone. In the meantime, they are worthy of no less interest.

Hungary

The flag of this country has the form of a rectangle, the sides of which are related to each other in a ratio of two to three. It is occupied by three equal horizontal strips, made in stamped colors. The country used the red-white-green flag from October 1, 1957. Every color has symbolism. Red represents the blood of Hungarian patriots who fought for sovereignty, white is the noble ideas of the people, and green is a sign of hope for a better future. Such shades were used for military details in the middle of the sixteenth century. During the revolution of 1848, a red-white-green banner was also used. And the first flags of the end of the tenth century were scarlet. So we can say with confidence that the combination of colors is closely related to the Hungarian history. It is interesting that there is also an unofficial version of the cloth, on which the state emblem is placed in the center.

Wales

Perhaps, one of the most unusual standards belongs to this state, which is part of the UK. The white-green-red flag is used by the Welsh for many centuries. The symbol is based on the traditional shape of the rectangle. It is divided into two halves: the upper white and the lower green. In the center is a large image of a red dragon. The flag was adopted in 1959, but the symbolism dates back to the time of the Roman Empire. The dragon was a long-standing sign of Wales, and white and green were used for many centuries. For example, it was precisely these colors that were the form of the warriors who favored Henry the Eighth Tudor from the Welsh lands. In 1807, the royal standard with the image of a red dragon on a green hill with a white background was used, and by 1953 the hill became a strip. At the same time, an image of the shield with the crown on top was added. But six years later the white-green-red flag of Wales found a modern look. It is not included in the common British symbol, which often provokes discontent among local residents.

Syria

This Arab Republic also uses a white-green-red flag. It was formally adopted since 1980. Rectangular standard is covered with three equal horizontal strips. The lower one is black, the middle is white, and the top is red, and the green is used for two large five-pointed stars in the center. Each color is associated with both the history of the state and the Arab region as a whole. Green represents the Fatimid dynasty and serves as a symbol of Islam. White was the color of the Umayyads, who for many years headed the Caliphate, the black one - the Abassides, who also made a great contribution to the history of the country. Red reminds of the spilled for the freedom of blood, and the stars are Syria and Egypt, which created the United Arab Republic.

Lebanon

Another original white-green-red flag also refers to the symbolism of the eastern countries. The panel of Lebanon is a rectangular shape with a ratio of two to three sides. At the edges are narrow red stripes, and in the center - a wider white. In the center is a schematic image of a green tree, symbolizing the Lebanese cedar. This variant of the standard was approved in February 1967. Prior to this, the image of the cedar was two-colored. The white band on the flag symbolizes the purity of thoughts, the red ones represent the blood shed in the liberation movements. Cedar - a traditional symbol of the country, associated with the Christian religion.
