The modern flag of Vietnam and its historical variants

Vietnam - a country in something extremely close to China, in addition, many regions have long been European colonies. But still, this is an original state with its own national symbols. What flag and coat of arms do the Vietnamese use? What are their value?

History and significance of the modern flag

The main state symbol is used by Vietnamese since November 30, 1955. Initially, the flag of Vietnam, photographs and images of which can be seen today, was used by the Democratic Republic, located in the northern part of the country. The ratio of width to length of the panel is two to three. A similar image was used already in 1945, but ten years later the outlines of the star changed somewhat. Since 1976, the Democratic Republic has united with South Vietnam and the old cloth has already been used as a general symbol of the socialist republic. Changes in its appearance were not introduced then, later there were no innovations, so the modern version is no different from what was adopted in the 70's. The flag of Vietnam at the moment looks like a red canvas with a large golden yellow five-pointed star. The choice of such color for the basis is intended to express the victory of communism in the revolution, in this the symbol is similar to Chinese. With its golden star, the flag of Vietnam symbolizes party leadership, and the five ends express the unity of workers, peasants, soldiers, youth and intellectuals. All these classes have rallied to work together for the benefit of the state.

From 1890 to 1920 the flag of Vietnam was a yellow cloth with three horizontal red stripes, located in the center. Initially, this flag belonged to the ruling dynasty of the state. From 1948 to 1975, this symbol was still used by the southern part of Vietnam. The northern part of the state from 1920 to the formation of the Democratic Republic in 1945 also used the symbolism of the Nguyen dynasty, but in a slightly different form. Therefore, the Vietnamese flag of that period is a yellow canvas with a wide red stripe, located horizontally in the center. In addition, from 1969 to 1976 in South Vietnam, the pro-communist flag of the ruling Party, consisting of two identical in size horizontal stripes, red from above and blue from below, on the background of which was located a large yellow star.

National emblem

In red and gold colors not only the flag of Vietnam is executed. The same color scheme is used in the national emblem of the country. In its center is a golden five-pointed star, which, like on the flag, symbolizes the unity of the five classes that jointly create the welfare of the state. The red background is a symbol of revolution. The border of the coat of arms is the image of a field, entirely sowed with grain crops. In the lower central part are the gear and the stalks of rice. They are symbols of a close union of peasants and workers. It is assumed that this emblem was developed taking into account the projects of symbolism of the People's Democratic Republic of China.
