Where is the gearbox knob and how is it interconnected with the gearbox?

Each car is equipped with a gearbox that transmits torque forces from the ICE to the driving wheels. In turn, the gearshift is impossible without the gear knob . This seemingly small detail plays an important role in the car. How it is arranged and where it is located - later in this article.

Location and properties

At this point in almost all cars, the gearshift knob is centered on the driver's and front passenger seats, next to the center console. The modern transmission lever has an outdoor-remote location. The very part is connected with the gearbox by means of cables, a roller and a special pull (wings). The last element is located outside the box body. At the center console the handle of a check point settles down practically on each car, without dependence from that, a box "automatic machine" it or "mechanic".

In some cases, the lever is located directly on the steering column. This location was popular on many domestic cars, such as the 21st Volga and Moskvich old models. He gained great popularity in the 30-50-ies of the last century and was actively used on machines of American and European production. These days only German cars are equipped with such a lever, and even those equipped with automatic transmissions and in limited versions. And it's not a lever, but a pair of buttons located directly on the steering wheel (they are called "speed change petals").

At the moment, especially popular was tuning the gear lever, especially from owners of domestic cars. Every second "Zhigulenok" is equipped not with the factory handle of the checkpoint. Ready-made devices can be purchased at any specialized store. They are not expensive. Chromed handles without patterns are sold at a price of 500 to 600 rubles. The same, only with neon lights, cost 1 000 rubles. Leather or combined (chrome, patterns and leather) cost from 1 to 2 thousand. Some motorists self-tune the handle of the checkpoint - they acquire a small piece of leather, process it and sew it in place.
