When is Pushkin's Memory Day?

February 10 - a tragic date, for those who really respected and admired the work of Pushkin. An absurd death in a duel deprived the country of a truly great and talented person. At his funeral in St. Petersburg gathered about 50 thousand people from all cities. This showed the incredible significance of the writer for the ordinary people, as well as his love for him.

Since that time in the calendar of annual events for each Russian family was introduced date February 10 - Day of Memory of Pushkin.

The lines from the biography of the great poet

Alexander Sergeevich was born June 6, 1799 in Moscow. His father and mother belonged to a very old family, but nevertheless they were overcome by poverty.

The noble ancestor on the maternal side was Abram Hannibal, who was taken out of Ethiopia by order of Peter the Great. His uncle, Vasily Lvovich Pushkin, from the earliest childhood shone with talent and showed himself in his teens as a writer, which made him famous. It was from him that Alexander took love of the word.

Almost all childhood he spent at home, and his diligent education owes his beloved nurse Arina Rodionovna. From an early age he was very fond of reading, and soon he began to write small rhymes.

In 1811, my uncle took up his education and sent to St. Petersburg a new lyceum, located in Tsarskoe Selo. There he studied for 6 years and managed to find true and faithful friends who were sufficiently eminent at that time.

Pushkin's first poem was published in the journal Vestnik Evropy in 1814, but the works were not praised by the authorities of that time, and he was sent first to the south, and then to the village of Mikhailovskoye, where the family's family estates were located.

Unusual feeling

In the winter of 1828, at one of the social events, Alexander met his first and last love - the beautiful Natalia Goncharova.

Probably, if not for her, the Day of Pushkin's Memory would not be so tragic, and literary light would see more than one brilliant work, but fate decreed otherwise.

In 1831 a great celebration took place - Alexander Sergeevich and Natalia Nikolaevna sealed themselves by marriage, after which the beautiful wife gave birth to his four children. But this family was, unfortunately, poor, and the yard in which the poet lived did not like him.

Imminent death

Pushkin's memory day for many is associated with a terrible event - a duel between Alexander and Dantes.

The first alarm bell for the writer was anonymous letters that broadcast that the faithful and beloved wife Natalia has a connection on the side with another man.

Pushkin did not lose his head and decided to defend his happiness in a duel. The enemy initially accepted the challenge, but a week later decided to marry Natalia's sister - Ekaterina Goncharova. Alexander because of this event decided to abandon the duel.

After a while, Dantes's wife died, the conflict flared up with renewed vigor.

The duel was held on February 8, 1837. The Black River region on the outskirts of St. Petersburg became a vile place. As a weapon, pistols were chosen, in seconds the duelists chose their best friends, with whom they went hand in hand for many years.

The outcome of this confrontation was a fatal wound in the writer's stomach, and Dantes received a minor injury in his right hand. The great poet was given only two days, despite all the efforts of doctors. Dantes was punished: he was demoted to the soldiers, after which he left the country forever.

Memory of descendants

After the tragic death of the great poet, friends and admirers of creativity decided to honor the achievements of Alexander Sergeyevich every year and contributed to the calendar of events "Pushkin's Memory Day." February 10 was a significant date for every citizen who was not indifferent to the fate of this remarkable man.

His direct descendants - Maria-Madeleine Durnovo-Pushkin and Alexander Pushkin, who live far from the writer's homeland, come to Moscow during this period and put a candle behind the repose of their famous ancestor, and also attend events held in honor of the poet.

According to Alexander Alexandrovich, one can understand that he is really impressed by the diversity of people, especially the age category that come to this event, and also his extraordinary unusual love of citizens for ancestor.

Traditional events

Year after year these memorable hours begin with the fact that people visit the writer's house on the embankment of the Moika River. Both ordinary citizens and creative intelligentsia of the country gather there. Since 1925, his apartment is considered a museum institution. They carefully store everything associated with the great writer, from old dishes to unpublished manuscripts.

The events dedicated to Pushkin's memory day every year have significant differences. For example, in 2014, it took about 3 days:

• February 9 at 7 pm was a concert dedicated to the poet.

• On February 10, a memorial service was held in the Church of the Savior Not Made by Hands, as well as a tour of the Black River, where the ill-fated duel took place.

• On February 12, a literary evening was held in commemoration of Alexander Pushkin. Poems writer read Alexander Gorodnitsky, and he also showed excerpts from the author's films, which were previously filmed about the life of the creator.

Children also remember

It would seem that only adults who already know a lot about the writer can attend with interest in such events, but this is not so.

This year also was not an exception to the previous ones. A lot of people visited various events on Pushkin's Memory Day in many cities of Russia.

The Mikhailovsky State Museum hosted thematic lectures that were devoted to the duel and death of Alexander Sergeevich.

Also on Pushkin's Memory Day, on February 10 in St. Petersburg, everyone could visit the Lyceum Garden, where a traditional meeting of representatives of the writer's museum and ordinary connoisseurs of the great poet's art took place.

On the site of the Black River, where the fateful duel took place, a requiem meeting was held, and verses by Alexander Sergeevich were heard at the monument on Kolomyazhsky Prospekt.
