What you need to know the size of the chipboard

For the mass production of cabinet furniture, the main material has recently been chipboard boards, which are worthy of competition with wood for their qualities. This structural material is easy to handle, perfectly holds any fasteners, has a variety of exterior trim options. Therefore, when cutting furniture it is important to get as few cuttings as possible, and does not play a role, individually or in production. The most important parameter is the standard size of the DSP sheet. Knowing the necessary parameters, you can significantly save on materials.

Size of chipboard from different manufacturers

The strength of the material and its weight depend on the thickness and density of the sheet, but these important criteria still fall into the background as compared to its size.

The standard is the size of the chipboard, which is adhered to by the largest plate producers that occupy the first positions in the markets of the CIS countries. Among them are brands of European manufacturers: Kronospan (Czech and Slovakian), Intershpan (Hungary), DDL (Czech Republic), Kaindl (Slovak Buchin DDD), Kastamonu (Romania), Egger (Austria), and domestic ones - Swisspan , KronospanUA, Krono-Ukraine, Lesnsnab, Russian laminate and about four dozen Russian companies that produce more than 100 thousand cubic meters of products a year. For example:

  • The Kastamonu plate is available in a size of 2.8 x 2.1 m in all main thicknesses - 10, 16, 18 and 25 mm.
  • "Kronostar" has two standard sizes: 2.8 x 2.10 and 2.5 x 1.85 m (16, 18, 22 mm).
  • Kronospan (Russia) produces the same chipboard size, but has a wider range of thicknesses - 8, 10, 12, 16, 18, 22, 25, 28 mm.
  • SwissPan company with the same leaf width 1.83 m has two lengths - a standard 2.75 m and a shortened 1.83 m.
  • Egger has its vision of the standard - a sheet 2.8 x 2.07 m, the thickness of which varies from 10 to 38 mm, and this is the only firm that produces sheets with a thickness of 19 mm.
  • KronospanUA, Krono-Ukraine offers three sheet sizes: 2.75 x 1.83; 2.80 x 2.07 and 3.5 x 1.75. At the same time, the area of sheets varies significantly: 5,032, 5,796 and 6,125 m 2 (respectively).

Weight of chipboard

Standard sheets of chipboard for different thicknesses have different weights. These data are tabulated, which makes it possible to roughly calculate the mass of the future product.

Sphere of application of chipboard

The most widely used chipboard in furniture production and construction. So, slabs without finishing are used for making wall panels, door leaves, facing of floors and ceilings, construction of partitions, panels and filing of roofs, device formwork. Since chipboard is much cheaper than solid wood or MDF, it becomes possible to save on costs when finishing or building works, without reducing their quality or reliability.

Laminated, veneered chipboard is in demand in the production of furniture, thanks to which a wide range of furniture of economy class with an optimal price-quality ratio appeared.

For example, the dimensions of chipboard 16 mm are the optimal options for the production of cabinet furniture or frames of upholstered furniture. Often this size is used in construction for the device of floors and partitions, as well as frame elements of the interior.
