What is ice and ice. Safety and rules of conduct

From time to time we hear a weather forecast for 1-2 days in advance. In this regard, in winter, we sometimes have to deal with such concepts as "ice" and "ice". Have you ever wondered what is ice and ice? Many people are sure that this is the same thing. No! These are two completely different concepts! Do you know how to behave during the ice and ice, so as not to slip and not to get serious injuries? Let's put all the dots over "and" and figure out what's what for.

What is ice?

The definition of this concept can be viewed both from the scientific and philistine points of view. From the scientific point of view ice is called the deposition of ice on one or other of the open surfaces. This occurs predominantly from the windward side and through the intention of drops of precipitated supercooled sediments, for example rain, and exclusively at low air temperatures.

In more simple terms, ice is the formation of trees, wires and ice land, directly related to the freezing of rain falling on a cold surface at a negative air temperature. That's what ice is!

At what temperatures does ice arise?

In principle, this is a fairly common phenomenon in the winter. It is observed at air temperatures from 0 to -12 degrees Celsius and at plus values: from 0 to +3 degrees Celsius.

How often does it happen?

So, what is ice, we figured out. But what is the periodicity of its occurrence? As already mentioned above, it occurs during the cold half-year and, as a rule, with the removal of warm moist air from the Mediterranean or from the Atlantic.

Weather forecasters note that about once in 10 years ice can be quite intense and long, covering the entire region. According to the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, the last time this phenomenon reached the scale of the natural disaster and occurred in 2010.

Picture of ice

The thickness of the ice, as a rule, does not have any giant dimensions. Usually it varies within 1 centimeter and slightly higher. But if this thickness exceeds the above level, this can lead to serious consequences. Here are some of them:

  • Breakages of power lines;
  • Ice crust on cars;
  • Massive fall of trees;
  • car crashes;
  • Traumatizing people.

Ice in winter usually grows during the whole time, when the sub-cooled precipitation falls out of the Cosmos. Ice deposited on the ground, trees, cars, roofs of houses, can persist for many days. Its growth usually lasts not more than an hour, but the destruction is rather slow and almost always due to evaporation of the ice.

Ice

What is ice? This is the most common ice that appears on the earth's surface (on roads, roofs of houses) as a result of freezing of water after a thaw or rain with a sudden drop in air temperature (cooling). The second name of this natural phenomenon is a "slippery road".

In short, the ice cover is formed by the melting of snow (or ice) during a sharp warming. This phenomenon occurs quite often when the air temperature fluctuates around 0 degrees Celsius. That's what ice is!

The difference between ice and ice

As noted above, both these concepts have nothing in common, but are equally dangerous for humans. At the given natural phenomena there is a rather serious threat to life and health of people, especially motorists.

Once again, we note the difference between them: ice represents precipitation of supercooled sediments, and ice cover is frozen water that has already covered the earth, for example, came from its surface or from other sources, was formed as a result of a short-lived thaw. In addition, ice is a rare phenomenon in comparison with ice.

Rules for ice and ice, which should be observed

It is necessary to listen carefully to the weather forecast. If weather forecasters transmit ice or ice, you need to act.

  1. The best way to maintain your balance without falling on the ice and not injuring yourself is to use shoes with metal hems or with a ribbed sole. On the dry sole, you can glue an insulating tape or medical adhesive plaster.
  2. Moving along the street in such a period should be very carefully and, most importantly, not in a hurry! Step fully on the entire sole. Your hands at this time should be free, and the legs are slightly relaxed. For pensioners, while traveling on ice, one should "arm" with a cane with a rubber tip.
  3. If you all slipped, try to balance yourself, balancing with your own hands. It resembles a kind of dancing on the ice.
  4. There is another way of developing the situation if you slip: you can sit down, thereby reducing the height of the fall. If you still fall, group and try at the time of the impact on the ice roll. This should soften the blow. It is such techniques used by stuntmen on set.
  5. If you get a serious injury (hit your head, cut an eyebrow, broke a hand) or a bruise, then be sure to contact the nearest trauma center.
  6. It should be remembered that ice is often accompanied by icing of power lines, so pay special attention to them, as well as to the wires of contact networks. The fact is that tattered bare wires can be under your feet.
  7. Dear motorists! During any ice phenomena, please refrain from using your transport whenever possible! This will allow you to save yourself, your vehicles and pedestrians.
