It was long ago that those days when birth rate was regulated exclusively through abortion were lost. Today the question of whether to be protected or not, everyone decides for himself. Of course, this requires a serious and responsible approach, and if the contraceptive was chosen incorrectly, the consequences can be the most "deplorable".

It should be noted that protection should be perceived not only as a form of protection from conception of the child, but also as a form of preserving the health of the mother and the opportunity to give birth to a strong baby when you so desire.

However, it should be said that no contraceptive method can give absolute guarantees from the onset of pregnancy. Often experts recommend using combinations of several contraceptives to achieve maximum effect. At the same time, before making a choice in favor of this or that method of protection, you should always consult a doctor.

The classical variant of contraception is the so-called barrier methods. In the first half of the last century, their various types were almost the only escape from an unwanted pregnancy.

At the same time, science gradually developed, and on the drugstores, other types of contraceptives appeared over time, which reduced the popularity rating of barrier methods of contraception. Curious is the fact that when modern contraception was used, it somehow caused more complications than the use of standard condoms.

The mechanism of action of the barrier method of contraception is based on the fact that the contraceptive prevents the penetration of spermatozoa into the cervical mucus. It is a question of a condom, a contraceptive sponge, cervical caps and a vaginal diaphragm.

The advantage of such products is that they are used locally and do not provoke the appearance of any changes. Therefore, the contraceptive method related to barrier methods has far fewer contraindications than other variations in protection from unwanted pregnancy. It also effectively protects against venereal diseases.

However, the barrier method of protection has disadvantages as well. Compared with intrauterine and oral contraceptives, it is less effective. Some products cause an allergic reaction in women to rubber or latex.

However, reliable contraceptives are also manufactured using a variety of chemical compounds. How do they work? Spermicides are placed in the vagina with jelly, foam aerosols or cream, which subsequently destroy the sperm while it moves to the uterus. Taking into account the fact that the spermatozoon is able to "reach the goal" within a minute and a half from the moment of the end of sexual intercourse, it can be said with certainty that the chemical products, from the point of view of quality and speed of providing protection against unwanted pregnancy, are inferior to other contraceptive methods.

Of course, effective contraception is not limited to the two above. There are also biological, calendar, temperature, cervical methods of protection.
