Red bananas - berry-raspberries for natives

In childhood, these juicy, tender and fragrant fruits became part of fruit salads, the basis of the taste of chewing gum, the most welcome gift from my grandmother. But in adulthood, we are ready for a new shock: it turns out that the banana is a berry, the fruit of the largest grass in the world. Here is such an incompatible logic - the stem of a banana reaches 10 m in height, on one trunk ripens up to 300 fruits in clusters with a total weight of half a ton.

If yellow bananas do not cause such a storm of joy as in the nineties, then red bananas are a curiosity and a pleasant surprise as a dessert. Their flesh is so tender that it does not tolerate transportation, and this explains the high cost of non-standard fruits.

Calorie and application of red bananas

While we try to drop a banana to a sweet table, many nationalities, like the population of Indonesia and the Seychelles, use these fruits in the form of a side dish, frying them with seasonings, spicy pepper and serving to meat, oysters and shrimp. Since the banana contains pectin and vitamin B6, especially rich in red bananas, this fruit raises the mood and serves as a source of carbohydrates. In one pulp contains about 300 mg of potassium - an important substance for maintaining the functioning of the heart muscle and fighting high blood pressure. The calorie content of one red banana is 90 calories with 0% fat content. This is one and a half times more potent than potatoes, at the same time it is more useful, and makes up 8% of the daily norm of carbohydrates. There are even special banana diets that are not recommended for people with increased stress on the heart.

Red bananas per 100 grams of weight also contain 1 g of protein, which is important in nutrition for athletes: it is enough to eat one fruit before training, and the charge of energy is provided. Also one banana contains about 2% of the daily norm of vitamin A and up to 15% of C, 2% of iron and 21 g of useful fruit sugar. Red bananas are considered a low-calorie dish, hypoallergenic for children aged 2 years - banana puree can be added to baby food for the youngest, but in limited quantities.

When to buy and what to eat red bananas ?

Thanks to the global internationalization and export development, red tropical fruits are available on the shelves 365 days a year. But the most acceptable period for harvesting is summer-autumn. The red color is due to the increased content of carotene: a banana, the photo of which is presented here, rather brown than red. But to buy is worth the fruits, the peel of which has a greenish tinge - better let them ripen at room temperature.

In cooking, red bananas are used in the same way as yellow ones, except that their flesh is more tender and even sweeter. They are eaten raw, eaten in fruit salads. With bananas, you can make sweet sandwiches, taking as a basis peanut butter, and as a pancake filling put "Nutella" in half with bananas or sprinkled with chocolate chips.

Also, bananas are a popular ingredient in the milk neck and healthy smoothies. The most popular combination is strawberry with a banana, the taste is something like chewing gum "Love is ...". Adepts of exotic cuisine can try to fry red bananas with the addition of coconut oil and thyme - the homemade will just be surprised by the unusual side dish.
