What is an obsession?

Each of us at least once fell into the grip of obsessions. The thought that constantly revolves in the head, does not give rest and does not want to go anywhere, in some situations it may seem funny, but in others it will easily become a source of big problems. As an example, you can think about whether you closed the bathroom with water at home, turned off the gas in the kitchen. Such thoughts can cause a real obsessive neurosis without problems.

Some people can not help but think that danger is everywhere around them. It's not about paranoia, but about the case when a person completely draws a situation that for him seems dangerous. For example, a person may be obsessed with an obsession, connected with the fact that if he leaves the street after ten in the evening, he will be attacked by a robber in a black jacket, with a knife in his hands and a bandanna around his neck. The bottom line is that these ideas can draw very detailed images. Curious is the fact that a person suffering from the obsession described above may not even react if he is robbed on the street by a man in a black jacket, with a knife, but without a bandanna. He will return home and will again cycle around in an obsessive manner, and the robbery will very soon forget about what happened.

Often the obsession grows out of the desire to do something. It is not necessary to include in this category thoughts of vacation, going to the movies and other things, since these are ordinary desires, unnatural in which there is absolutely nothing. Obsessive ideas, as a rule, should be unusual, eccentric, unacceptable - in other words, it must contradict the nature of the person whom it visited. Often these ideas are very stupid. For example: stand on the table of the chief in his presence, give the saleswoman from the local store his toothbrush, steal something from his friend's apartment. It sounds all funny, but the people suffering from it do not see anything funny here. Such thoughts can make a person nervous, jerky, eager for solitude, of course, this affects primarily his psyche.

Of course, the obsession can be good: to earn a lot of money, to provide for your family, to travel the whole world. These ideas seem quite adequate, but from normal human desires differ only in their strength. The catch is that a person with an obsession about money will earn them all his life without even thinking about why they need him. A person with an obsession about family happiness will search for him all his life, but he will die alone, and not finding the one with which one could create a family.

Obsessions: how to deal with them

First of all, it is worthwhile to understand why this neurosis arose: overwork, poor nutrition, lack of sleep, hidden complexes and so on. Without an understanding and awareness of the problem, it will not be possible to fight it.

Admit to yourself that the obsession that is not giving you rest is a problem, and then try to convince yourself that she is stupid, and you can not do this. It is possible that this will help you.

Obsessions, associated with fears, are best treated in an "open battle". You think that the black cat is the source of all evil on Earth, get this animal at home; Think that in the attic there lives a homeless person who wants your death - go there and make sure that everything is quiet and peaceful.

Specific ways have to fight and ideas associated with order and accuracy. I believe you already guessed how, therefore, there is no meaning to continue.

Often one can observe the neurosis of obsessive movements in children. He should be treated better with the support of a specialist, as with the diseases of children, jokes are bad.

In general, I would like to add that it is never too late to turn to a professional psychologist who will help get rid of even the most persistent obsession once and for all.
