Of the Russian Federation: list in alphabetical order

Out of 85 subjects, the composition of Russia is formed. The republics make up one-fourth of this amount. They occupy about thirty percent of the total territory of the country. There lives a sixth of all residents of the state (without taking into account the Crimea). Next, we will discuss the term "republic" in more detail. The article will also indicate some historical information on the formations of these entities, a list of existing entities is given.

The concept of "the republic of Russia"

Areas and regions are considered to be administrative-territorial components of the country. The Republic is usually called state formations. We can say that they are small national associations existing in the territory of one state. All the republics of Russia establish their own constitution. In addition, these entities can legitimize a single state language for the entire autonomy. In the days of the Soviet Union, the notion of autonomous socialist republics (abbreviated to the USSR) was also used, which were also called autonomous regions. They had the significance of national-state formations, whereas regional centers and provinces were called units of territory.

The first formations

The Republic of Russia began to form at the beginning of the twentieth century, the revolution was barely over. They were created, leaving the provincial territories and other units. However, further such formations began to arise from already existing areas having a free position. Usually they were considered separate territories, but sometimes they remained part of the territories and regional centers. When the Constitution was adopted in 1936, new republics began to appear less and less. Few of those who appeared before completely separated themselves from Russia, remaining, however, as part of the USSR.

Formations that are part of other entities

There were not only the republics of Russia. They formed also in the composition of already separated formations, representing autonomous units. For example, independent subjects - Adzharistan and Abkhazia - have emerged from the Soviet Republic of Georgia. And in the Azerbaijan Republic Nakhichevan was formed. For five years, the Uzbek SSR included the autonomous formation of Tajikistan. Later it finally acquired complete independence and became the Tajik SSR, also having concluded an alliance with the once patronized republic. Several years later, Uzbekistan received Karakalpak Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic in its possession. The territory of Ukraine was earlier adjoined by the Republic of Moldova, which left it after twenty-six years of the union, leaving part of the territories. The last formed republic was Tuva. After its appearance, the number of autonomous subjects did not change for another thirty years.

Further development

Since 1990, the republics of Russia have started to form again (the list will be given below). However, education now took place due to the acquisition by former autonomous entities and regions of absolute sovereignty. In the summer of 1990, each republic achieved autonomy, as well as many areas that previously had no autonomy. There was a transformation of the Adygei, Khakassia, Gorno-Altai and, besides them, Karachaevo-Circassian regions. Then Chechnya and Ingushetia were divided, which once represented a united republic. During the procedure for acquiring subjects of independence, they were awarded the title of sovereign. However, it should be noted that for all the time, the topic of getting republics full autonomy and separation from Russian territories was not mentioned. After gaining independence, new objects developed in different ways. For example, the barely formed republics of Adzharia and Nakhichevan, which for many years had the status of autonomies, merged with other entities. Thus, they became part of the Georgian and Azerbaijani entities. Abkhazia, which was a Soviet republic, planned to remain part of the union of sovereign states, whereas Georgia did not support this idea. A similar problem arose on the left bank of the Dniester, previously considered part of the Moldovan autonomy, and then decided to become an independent territory. A peaceful solution to the problem was not found, so a series of military operations began. They did not help Georgia and Moldova regain control, only facilitated the acceleration of the formation of two new republics - Abkhazia and Transnistria.

Chuvash Republic

The subject is located in the Volga valley. On the right bank there is the Privolzhskaya Upland, and on the left - a flat territory. In this part of the Volga receives tributaries of Sura, Anish and Tsivil. In the 2nd millennium BC, representatives of the Balanovo and Srebrnaya nationalities lived in the place of the present republic. A few centuries later they were replaced by the Gorodets tribes. Active settlement began in the 7-9 centuries of our era. From the Lower Volga region at that time the tribes of Suvar and Bulgarians moved. Subsequently, it was from these ethnic groups that the Chuvashes were formed. By the 10th-13th centuries the Volga Bulgaria was formed. But by the 14th century the state had fallen into decay. This was due to the raids of the Tatar-Mongols. So, for several centuries the lands passed to the Bulgarians, then to the Mongol Tatars, then they adjoined the Kazan Khanate (in 1546 the territory of the future Chuvashia was under its yoke). As a result, the people asked for help from the then reigning Ivan the Terrible. In the sixteenth century Russia annexed them. The Chuvash Republic had several fortresses on its territory. Among them are, for example, Yadrin, Tsivilsk.
