What can tell a lemon about your temperament

Do you already know who you are by the type of person: extrovert or introvert? To answer this question, you need to think for a moment and remember, like or you go to parties and talk with strangers. However, perhaps earlier you already answered questions in the network, having passed a quick and standard online test. The problem is that such quizzes suggest honest answers of the subject, but even in this case they contain a fair amount of subjectivity. You probably like parties, but not so much, compared to your best friend. How to be in this case? Where is the line beyond which the extrovert turns into an introvert?

Impartial method of verification

In psychology, there is a completely different approach to determining the type of personality. It is not based on quizzes and subjective answers. Will help find the truth of the taste of lemon, and specifically a few drops of pure lemon juice. This experience has a long history, but it is not difficult to conduct it at home. For the experiment, store a clean cotton pad and five drops of lemon juice. Before starting the procedure, you need to perform some more manipulations. To the very middle of the disc, fasten the short thread tightly. Now everything is ready to start the experiment.

Test

Put one end of the cotton pad on the tongue, then count 20 seconds. After that, pour into the mouth five drops of lemon juice, and swallow it. Now put the tampon on the tongue with the other end, by the fact that you have not yet participated in the process. Again, hold the cotton in your mouth for 20 seconds. Now remove the disc from the tongue and grasp the "tail" attached to the middle. We verify the results. If the cotton-disc is still in the horizontal position, then you are an extrovert. If one piece of the tampon is tilted downwards, this state of things indicates an introvert.

Why is this happening

Oral cavity of people in different ways perceives lemon juice. Someone can calmly eat sour citrus and do not frown, and someone immediately begins increased salivation. If after a person drinks a few drops of concentrated lemon juice, he has no reaction, so the cotton disc at both ends will be evenly wet with saliva. If there is excessive salivation, then one side of the tampon will be heavier. Hang such a disk on a thread, and one of the ends will obviously outweigh. Psychologists say that increased salivation at the physiological level is characteristic of introverts.

The original experiment of Hans Eysenck

This version of the test was widely publicized in the 60s of the last century. For the first time the experiment was conducted by the pioneer of the study of personality psychology by Dr. Hans Eysenck together with his wife and colleague Sybil. In the original experiment to measure salivation, specialists used sensitive apothecary scales. In other respects, the principle of action was observed. Dr. Eysenck suggested that introverts have a higher degree of cortical excitement, which makes them react to the acid of lemon juice. In fact, introverts feel and perceive things more than their opponents. Probably, the reaction of the body forces them to evade certain situations.

Conclusion

The definition of the type of personality is due to the influence of biological factors, including heredity. There is ample evidence that introverts react more strongly to loud sounds and other types of sensory stimulation. However, contrary to the theory of Hans Eysenck and to this day there is little evidence that introverts have higher basal levels of cortical excitation. So, this is still debatable, but very curious. If you decide on such an experiment, we recommend repeating it several times for a more accurate and reliable result.
