Warming of the attic - the recipe for "roofing pie"

It is not very good to have an attic stuffed with different old things in your own home, it's much better when instead of it the top floor is assigned to a mansard - a modern functional room that can be used as a full-fledged living room.

Of course, if the presence of a mansard in the house is planned by the project, then all issues related to its organization will be solved directly in the process of the roof installation. In these cases, no additional measures to the owner of the house will not be necessary, in the course of construction work, the attic insulation, and necessarily with observance of all necessary technology, will be carried out directly by specialists. Completely different case, if it is a question of restoration of an old attic and arrangement of it under a mansard premise.

Since the attic - unlike the other rooms - is directly under the roof, it is much more heated or loses heat. Quality insulation is designed not only to keep this comfortable room in a unique room in winter, but also not allow it to heat up too much in the summer. In addition, the insulation of the attic will make it possible to significantly reduce the cost of gas or electricity for heating the entire house, since a well-equipped upper floor will contribute to the preservation of heat in the living rooms of the lower floor.

Warming of the attic requires compliance with certain rules and requirements, the violation of which can reduce to "no" all efforts to build a heat-insulating layer, which experts call "roofing pie". This peculiar "pie" consists of several layers: the roof itself (the material from which the roofing is made, does not play a special role), the layer of waterproofing, the insulation itself, the vapor barrier film and the finishing material, from which the ceiling and walls of the room are made.

To carry out the warming of the attic with your own hands is quite simple, the main thing is to build all layers of the "pie" correctly and from high-quality materials, without missing or changing all parts of the pie. Some household craftsmen (for the sake of economy) replace the steam-protective membrane with a regular polyethylene film, which is absolutely impossible to do, since the film, although it copes with the function of the vapor barrier, does not let the air in, which will inevitably lead to higher humidity in the room, decay of wooden elements, Of which the structure of the roof consists , and the appearance of mold.

Hydro and vapor barrier films can always be purchased at any construction store, but as for the thermal insulation layer, then for these purposes use a variety of materials. The most common and reliable method is the insulation with mineral wool, which is manufactured by the industry in the form of plates that are not too large. These slabs fit tightly between the roof rafters and provide excellent thermal insulation effect.

It is also often carried out the insulation of the attic with foam plastic, which is obedient in operation, has a low weight and low price. True, many roofers do not approve this method very much, arguing that the foam does not allow the "roofing pie" to receive sufficient ventilation, and the result of the installation work when used as a foam insulation is called not very high quality. Be that as it may, this method is quite popular due to its low cost cost and has a full right to exist.

After the complete laying of the "roofing pie" is built internal crate, it will not only support the insulation, but also serve as the basis for fixing the finishing material, from which it is planned to build a ceiling and walls. At this stage, the insulation of the attic is finished, it remains only to carry out the finishing works, the kind of which will depend on the interior design of the room.
