Villa: a high garden with your own hands

Recently, many summer residents are arranging at their sites so-called high beds. Why such a complex design, because it is much easier to dig up the earth, level it and make skirts? The fact is that a high bed has some advantage over the usual in terms of an earlier warming of the soil in the spring. You can plant plants on it about two weeks earlier. Such a design will certainly last more than one year.

A high bed with your own hands is done quite simply. To do this, you first need to choose the right place. It must be, firstly, sunny, and secondly, well protected from the wind. For sure in any country there is a free part, corresponding to these conditions.

Next, you need to make a skeleton. A high seedbed with your own hands can be made of either wood or metal. Here everything depends on what material is currently available. The frame is made either from uneven bars or from a corner. Then on it from four sides fix the boards. You can also use sheet iron or profiled sheet.

High beds with their own hands are made in such a way that their height is not less than 30 cm and not more than 80. If you make the bed below, it will not warm up before the time. From too high it is difficult to harvest. After installing the frame and fixing the walls to it, the structure is checked for strength and begins to fill the resulting capacity with the soil mixture.

Do this in several stages. A high bed with its own hands is arranged using three layers - drainage, nutrient and soil. For the first layer, any material that does not retain moisture is suitable. It may even be rubble. But it's best to take medium sized stones. The fact is that in the fall or spring digging, drainage material, if it is too shallow, can get into the soil. The pebbles with a diameter of 6-8 cm will remain in place.

Then pour the nutrient layer. It can be humus or compost. And at the last stage a layer of garden land is added. That's all, a high garden with your own hands is ready.

Some summer residents fill them a little differently. At the same time, the metal mesh from the rodents is laid first on the bottom of the made bed. As drainage, branches, tree bark and other similar materials are used. The next layer with this method consists of grass, leaves, sawdust, etc. Decomposing, they give the superficial layer laid on top of the heat.

What are the two ways to choose them, you decide. Both are quite comfortable and allow you to get a good result. Decoration of beds in this case does not play a special role for the best growth of plants. However, ugly walls can spoil the appearance of the site. They can be painted or varnished if a tree was used. In this case, one more advantage is that after processing they will last a little longer.

The use of high beds in the dacha can be called economically feasible, because it allows you to harvest much earlier. Having arranged such a construction once, you can enjoy its benefits for more than one year. In addition, properly designed beds can even become a real decoration of the site.
