USB-B Interface Overview

At the moment there are several types of USB-connectors: the interface is released in three versions (1.1, 2.0 and 3.0). The first is almost not used because of the low speed, it can only be found on old personal computers. The second version currently occupies a dominant position, despite the fact that this type of interface is, so to speak, a bottleneck in the organization of data transmission. These connectors, in fact, inhibit the work of modern hard drives and other types of data storage. But for the connection of peripherals, this type is considered ideal. The third version belongs to a new generation, connectors of this type are marked in blue. This article is dedicated to a separate subtype of this interface - USB-B. These connectors are presented in two versions - 2.0 and 3.0, in addition, they are classified by size (standard, mini and micro).

USB-B: version 2.0

This interface is very popular. Each modification of this connector has a trapezoidal or square shape. A full-size traditional USB-B connector is the only kind that has a square cross-section. Due to its large size, it is used in a variety of large peripheral devices, such as scanners, printers, sometimes in ADSL modems. Manufacturers of multifunctional devices and printers usually do not complete their products with such cables, so they have to be bought separately.

Mini USB-B interface , version 2.0

The main reason for the appearance of such connectors was the abundance of miniature devices and portable hard drives. Unlike the large four-pin connectors, this option has 5 contacts. However, minimizing the interface had a negative impact on its reliability. When used continuously, the USB-Mini-B connector begins to loosen over time. Currently, these connectors are actively used in players, cardreaders, portable hard drives and other compact devices. However, this type of interface is gradually replaced by a new, even more miniature connector - the micro type.

Connector Micro USB Type B, Version 2.0

This interface is a modification of the previous version (mini). The small overall dimensions of the connector allow it to be used in modern miniature devices (tablets, smartphones, etc.). Due to the improved fastening design, the connector fits tightly in the socket, does not fall out when the device moves. This interface in 2011 was adopted as a single standard for charging phones, smartphones, players and other miniature equipment. This solution allowed using a single cable to charge any electronic gadget. The mentioned standard shows today high growth trends, so you can expect that in the near future the interface will be equipped with all new devices.

Connector type B, version 3.0

This terminal is used in large and medium-sized peripherals with high performance, as well as in hard disks for stationary use. This connector has undergone major changes, so it is not compatible with version 2.0. Cables with this connector, as well as 2.0, can be found on sale rarely.
