Treatment of sore throat with antibiotics

Angina or tonsillitis is an acute bacterial disease in which tonsils are affected, most often the palatines. The pathological process can also be localized on other tonsils of the pharyngeal ring.

Infection, most often bacterial, falls mainly exogenously (externally). Less often it is an autoinfection. There are two ways of getting the infection: through inhaled air and alimentary pathway. Autoinfection is more often due to the presence of chronic inflammatory processes in the oral and nasal cavities, carious teeth.

The bacterial source of the disease makes it possible to successfully treat sore throats with antibiotics. In order to know what antibiotics for angina to appoint, it is important to identify the pathogen. The most common causes of angina is staphylococcus, hemolytic streptococcus, pneumococci, less often fungi. The disease is more likely to affect children. This is associated with their imperfect immune system. The disease is more common in autumn and spring.

Angina is divided into catarrhal, follicular and lacunar forms.

In addition to general intoxication, high fever, sore throat, tonsillitis can be complicated by severe diseases. These can be endocarditis, nephritis, rheumatism, joint damage, development of phlegmonous tonsillitis, otitis media, laryngitis, laryngeal edema and paratonsillar abscess, lymphadenitis and phlegmon.

Treatment of sore throat with antibiotics

Drugs for angina should be taken strictly with regard to individual characteristics. The main method is the treatment of angina with antibiotics. Before the detection of an infectious agent, antibacterial therapy with a broad spectrum of action is prescribed. After receiving the results of planting on the flora and its sensitivity to antibiotics, appropriate treatment is prescribed. In modern medicine, there are semi-synthetic and synthetic derivatives of antibiotics. New generations have valuable properties, such as acid resistance, fermentation resistance, as well as an irrigated distribution in organs and tissues, high activity against many pathogenic microorganisms.

In catarrhal form, it is better to start treatment of angina with antibiotics with tablets of penicillin series or cephalosporins. They have a bactericidal effect mainly on Gram-positive microorganisms, are able to penetrate inside the cell and act on the bacteria in them. The antimicrobial effect of penicillins is similar to that of physiologically active substances that carry out the body's immune response. The action of these antibiotics is selective. With angina, ampiox, ampicillin, oxacillin and other derivatives are used.

Cephalosporins have a bactericidal effect on many pathogenic microorganisms, including those resistant to penicillin. They are well tolerated, rarely cause side effects and allergic reactions. Indications for the appointment of this group is angina, caused by a penicillin-insensitive pathogen, or with allergies to penicillins in severe form of angina. The best antibiotics for follicular angina are cephalosporins.

A good effect in the treatment of the disease have antibiotics from the macrolide group. They have a bacteriostatic effect, are active against gram-positive microorganisms, intracellular pathogens. When applied, a high concentration in the tissues is achieved. They are low in toxicity. This group does not have a cross-allergy with betta-lactams. Macrolides are natural (Erythromycin, Oleandomycin), and semisynthetic (Clarithromycin, Azithromycin, etc.).

The duration of treatment with antibiotics for angina should be at least seven days. Azithromycin (Sumamed) is used in tablets or syrup for children for three days. Its bacteriostatic effect persists for a week after the end of the drug intake. Macrolides (Macropen, Erythromycin) are also produced in tablets or syrup for children.

In severe angina, antibiotics are administered parenterally. The course of treatment is seven days.

The dosage of antibiotics is calculated depending on the body weight of the person.
In addition to antibiotic therapy, antihistamines, local antiseptic solutions based on glycerin and iodine (Lugol's solution), antiseptic aerosols with antibiotics (Geksoral, Bioparox, Stopangin, etc.) are used in the treatment of angina.
