Dmitry Solunsky is one of the many martyrs who suffered for the Christian faith. During the persecution, he did not renounce her, for which he suffered. The later found relics of Dmitry Solunsky possessed a miraculous effect. So he was elevated to the face of the saints.

A brief biography of Dmitry Solunsky

Dmitry Solunsky was born in Thessaloniki. Today this town is called Thessaloniki (Thessalonica - Slav name). Christianity was still a young religion, only three centuries as people recognized it. However, at that time they were executed for believing in one God. Dmitry's parents were Christians, but nobody knew about it. Later he was baptized and trained in the Christian faith.

After the death of his father (and he was a Roman proconsul), the emperor who ruled at that time took him to the service. Dmitry's task was to defend the city, and also to eradicate Christianity. The Emperor did not even suspect that he had appointed a secret Christian to the service. After the appointment, Dmitry began to openly preach Christianity, turning many people into faith.

Of course, the emperor knew about this. Dmitry Solunsky, a saint and martyr, was cast into prison. There he prayed and fasted for a long time. Eventually on the twenty-sixth of October, 306, he received martyrdom without renouncing his faith. Soaked in his blood ring, healed the sick for a long time.

Dmitry Solunsky, a saint and martyr for the Christian faith, after death was cast to scold dogs, but Christians secretly buried him. A church was built over the grave.

The relics of Dmitry Solunsky. Finding and history

The relics of the saint were found a hundred years after his death. On the site of his burial the new, more majestic temple began to cost. So his imperishable relics were found. Subsequently, many miracles happened from them, they also distinguished the world.

The relics of Dmitry Solunsky were first in silver cilia, and after the fire that happened in the 17th century, they were moved to a marble tomb. Their further fate is vague. According to different opinions, or at the end of the 12th century, or in the early 13th century, they were taken to Italy. Where they were before 1520, it is not known. But after they were discovered in San Lorenzo in Campo, then they remained there until the 20th century. In Thessaloniki, they returned not completely, now six particles are in Italy.

The miracles that occurred with the relics and the name of the saint

The relics of Dmitry Solunsky and his name have a long "miraculous" story. Immediately upon their discovery, they began to melt (by the way, to date, the myrrhtosis ceased, although at that time it was very abundant). After that, he zealously cared for his hometown. When there was an attack on him, he defended Thessalonica on horseback on a white horse, dressed in dazzling white robes, and also shining with fire. All this caused the attacking army to flee in fear.

One day two girls from Thessalonica were captured. They managed to escape only by the intercession of Saint Dmitry. Embroidering his face on the canvas on the orders of the barbarian king, they prayed all the night to the saint for help. The next morning the girls woke up miraculously in their own home.

The saint saved many prayers from diseases (from plague, from gastric bleeding, from obsession) many times. All who asked for intercession, always received their faith.

Saint Dmitri assisted not only his compatriots, but also the Slavs, who sought help from him. Obviously, it was not by chance that he became so revered on our land.

Temple in Thessaloniki in honor of the saint

The temple of Dmitry Solunsky, as already mentioned above, was first erected after his death. Then secret Christians buried him, and in this place a small church was built. About a hundred years later a larger temple was erected on this site. Then the relics of the saint were discovered.

The great temple of Dmitry Solunsky was built as a gratitude from the grandee of Leontius, who got rid of paralysis. The altar part of the church was erected above the burial of the saint, and he himself was transferred to the cue-bag.

The temple has a rich history (survived various regimes of government, iconoclasm). In addition to the fire in which the precious cigar was destroyed, another one happened in the 20th century. Restoration was carried out not one year and was completely finished by 1948.

Today in the temple in Thessaloniki, divine services are held, as well as a museum nearby, which anyone can visit. In the temple are the relics of St. Dimitri and Anisii of Solun. It is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
