The rate of ESR in children. What should be the meanings?

ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) is the same as ROE (erythrocyte sedimentation reaction), but this analysis was called this a while ago. This indicator is necessarily included in the UAC (general blood test) and for the diagnosis of diseases is of great importance. The ESR is measured in mm / h, i.е. Measured by how many millimeters drop the column in an hour in the capillary Panchenkov. Erythrocytes go down, and on top remains a light liquid - blood plasma. In other words, in the capillary, the blood is divided into two components - shaped elements and plasma, between which there is a clear boundary, here on it and measure ESR. The Panchenkov capillary itself has a scale marked by millimeters, along which the boundary of the two components is determined.

Normal parameters of ESR

The rate of ESR in children is directly related to age. In neonates, this indicator is almost not determined, it ranges from 0 to 1 mm / hour. At the age of 1 month the norm rises from 1 to 7 mm / hour, to 6 months to 10 mm / hour. The older the child becomes, the higher it becomes. At the age of one to 12 years, the norm of ESR in children is from 1 to 12 mm / hour, and by 15 years it is almost the same as in adults - from 1 to 18 mm / hour. A low index of ESR does not carry any diagnostic load, but only says that there are no inflammatory processes in the body. The norms in adult men and women differ - in men it reaches 9 mm / h, and in women it is twice as high and can reach 20 mm / h, in pregnant women it sometimes rises even up to 45 mm / h. According to various sources, the rate of ESR in children (as in adults) may be slightly different, and these are only approximate guidelines. For example, about 10 years ago, its upper limit for women was considered equal to 15 mm / h, and modern physicians and 20 mm / h are considered the norm.

At what diseases does ESR increase?

ESR in children and adults can increase in any inflammatory process. For example, pneumonia, pyelonephritis and other diseases, as well as burns, fractures and any other injuries. The more severe the disease, the higher the ESR. This indicator can be kept elevated long enough even after recovery. To the norm, he can come even after 1-2 months after the illness.

What indicators are included in the JAB?

What is a clinical blood test, probably everyone knows, and yet we recall - this is a laboratory blood test, which allows you to assess a person's condition. The amount of hemoglobin (HB), leukocytes (L), ESR, platelets (Tr), erythrocytes, color index and leukocyte count is determined. In addition to the general analysis, the physician can request reticulocytes, bleeding time and clotting time. These indicators are of great importance in bleeding and anemia.

The norms of hemoglobin in the representatives of the strong and the weaker sex are different, in men it is considered normal hemoglobin from 125 to 160 g / l, a little lower this value in women 120 - 145 g / l. High indicators, like low ones, can indicate any diseases. Thickening of the blood occurs in the first hours after bleeding, with thrombophlebitis, as well as in smokers. The norm of leukocytes from 3,5 to 9 * 10 9 / l, they can rise in any inflammatory processes. Platelets affect clotting and range from 180 to 320 * 10 9 / L. The rate of ESR in children and adults was examined above, so we will not dwell on it. The leukocyte formula is also of great importance for clarifying the diagnosis. The increase in her bacillary leukocytes is directly related to the severity of the disease, and the increase in eosinophils may indicate allergic reactions, helminthic invasions. In addition, according to the UAC, you can diagnose anemia, and identify certain types of leukemia. To hand over the given analysis it follows in the morning on an empty stomach. Blood can be taken from both the finger and the vein - this does not affect the result of the analysis.
