The concept of fasting and fast food. What it is?

In prerevolutionary Russia of the beginning of the last century (as, indeed, earlier), close attention was paid to the delineation of nutrition. The country was religiously oriented, and Orthodoxy - the main religion. Therefore, the Christian canons of food directly reflected on secular cooking. Traditionally, the church food was divided into lean and fast. When was the fast food allowed ? What is this in the conventional sense of the word? Our next article will tell about this and many other interesting things.

Orthodox Posts

According to the rules in Russian Christianity, fasting should last most of the year. If you correctly observe all kinds of posts, it turns out that the Orthodox in the year 281 fast and only 84 alternative days. During prayers and purification (by the way, in the classical sense in ancient times it also meant conjugal abstinence) it is necessary to eat the appropriate food. It is called the same word. But in different posts are allowed to eat a different meal. So, in strict, for example, even vegetable oil and hot food are unacceptable, but you have to manage with bread, water, compote and fruits with vegetables. But on the weekend (Saturday and Sunday) in Lent, oil of vegetable origin and all possible seafood are allowed.

Fast food. What it is?

If lean food is the food that is allowed to eat during the corresponding days, then the fast is traditionally contrasted: it can not be eaten. The very concept occurs etymologically from the Old Slavonic "scram", obsolete "soon", which meant "fat, oil of animal origin." According to some non-verified scientific versions, from the Old Russian word "rough", which means "received from the cow". In any case, these concepts are combined with the expression "fast food". What it is? Food products, which include ingredients obtained from warm-blooded animals: mammals and poultry. Let's enumerate them with you in detail. What is related to fast food?

Meat and by-products

Certainly, any meat from mammals and birds is traditionally banned during fasting days. But it should be borne in mind that fast food is also all sorts of offal (this is often forgotten by the fasting ones): liver, kidneys, liver, heart, lungs. So these parts of the body of animals are strictly forbidden to use. Meat of goose and turkey, being a dietary product, is also called fast food.

Fat of animal origin

Here it is possible to carry the fat, hotly loved by many Slavs, Kurdyuk, chicken fat (including broths, considered many allowed). All these skoromnye products and their derivatives (including even vegetable dishes that were cooked on animal fats) will have to be excluded from the diet during the fasting.

Milk and derivatives

Milk and products from it are prohibited. For example, even fermented yogurt or kefir, not to mention sour cream. Cow oil is also outside the feeding zone in the posts. So keep in mind: you can not eat buckwheat porridge, dressed with a spoonful of milk butter, or drink a cup of tea or coffee with milk! And everything that is fried in butter from milk, is strictly forbidden. Plus the dough on milk or kefir.

Eggs

It should be remembered that eggs for sale can be quail, duck, and chicken. All kinds of eggs are prohibited to be consumed. And even more, not a word about eggs or a traditional morning soft-boiled egg.

Confectionery

Experienced fasting recommend to be extremely cautious with confectionery. After all, for their preparation, milk, kefir, animal oil, and eggs are often used. So an innocuous patty can prove to be the worst enemy of the system. But, fortunately, today even some cakes are prepared completely on lean vegetable (and it is allowed on some days of fasting), so there is an alternative.

To help the fasting

Before the fasting, of course, it is very useful to closely study what food is meant by the term "fast food": what it is and when what dish is allowed to use. But, in addition, the fasting person must reject the fast in everything: his behavior, his relations with his relatives, his understanding of the world. One should refrain from such feelings, sometimes characteristic of a person, like aggression, hatred, anger, envy, and other negativity. It is desirable to observe fasting (especially on strict days) and in marital relations, which is recommended by churchmen.

In violation of the rules

On the contrary, if a person is sick with serious illnesses (because the current ones can be healed by fasting) or very elderly, frail, requiring a certain diet in the diet, then the priest can eat the fast. Children, minors and up to 14 years, pregnant women at different times can also violate the rules of fasting. For example, they are allowed to eat fish products throughout the year.
