Some information on what is a fractured hand

Fracture - complete or partial violation of bone integrity, resulting from excessive effort. Although with a number of diseases, fracture may occur even from normal motion or a slight shock. Such situations are caused by a violation of bone mineralization (severe osteoporosis), tumors, metastases or congenital malformations. By the way, the famous impressionist painter Henri Toulouse-Lautrec suffered from the inherent fragility of bones.

A fracture of the arm bone usually occurs due to a fall on the exposed hand, twisting or direct impact. Under the influence of the damaging factor or force, the integrity of the bone is broken, bleeding occurs, the periosteum is damaged, while the fragments are shifted, the surrounding tissues can be additionally injured (up to the appearance of a secondarily open fracture - a situation where the bone fragments from the inside "pierce" the skin).

The most common fractures

Parrying fractures of the hand - as their name implies - are the result of self-defense. Defending himself against a blow, the person puts his forearm. In this case, the elbow and radius bones break, joints are damaged.

Fracture of the arm with the displacement is easy due to unsuccessful arm wrestling. When practicing this kind of sport, a person has an elbow fixed, and if a forearm is applied to the forearm, a certain lever is formed, which immediately breaks the humerus. Instead of playing sports, we have to treat a screw-shaped fracture with a displacement.

Well, the unconditional leader of this type of injury is a "ray fracture in a typical place," that is, a fracture of the radius in the zone of the wrist joint. Fractures in the winter are a kind of epidemic that begins with the appearance of ice. The mechanism of injury is simple: falling on the back or side, the person instinctively substitutes the palm, trying to avoid a strong blow to the head or the whole body. The organism reflexively "decides" to sacrifice a hand, but to save internal organs. At the same time, the radius of the radial bone "hits" the weight of the whole body, which leads almost to the inevitable fracture.

Symptoms and First Aid

Symptoms of the fracture are clear: severe pain, impaired function of the hand (the impossibility of active movements in large joints), in the place of fracture, usually marked pathological mobility (that is, the hand can move "like a rubber"), pronounced edema, sometimes extensive hematoma, less numbness of the fingers.

Fractures of the arm should be immediately immobilized (immobilized). To do this, a flat thin board is bandaged to the shoulder or forearm, a piece of plywood, an improvised tire can be made from crushed plastic bottles. In extreme cases, the arm can simply be bandaged to the trunk. In any case, the main thing is to bandage hard, but not tight (so as not to squeeze the blood vessels). With an open fracture, you first need to put a bandage on the wound, not directing fragments of bones inside. The victim can be given an anesthetic and as soon as possible to deliver to the hospital (do not forget to tell the doctor what medicine and in what dose you gave the victim).

How fractures are treated

There are many methods of helping the patient in the conditions of a trauma clinic or hospital. Gypsum is treated with fractures of the hand without displacement. Splintery, intraarticular, with displacement or open fractures operate. To fix the bones and their fastest fusion, it is possible to "fix" the fragments with a plate, an intraosteal stem. With open fractures, Ilizarov's apparatus and its analogues (the so-called external osteosynthesis) are usually used. For faster fusion usually prescribed calcium preparations and physiotherapy.

Any fracture is a serious injury. Caution, both with walking and with sports, can successfully avoid this extremely unpleasant problem.
