Sidewalk Tile And Asphalt: What Threatens Road Coverage In Winter?

Sidewalk tile, asphalt and reinforced concrete are the most reliable and durable coatings that perfectly withstand pedestrian flows and urban transport loads. With the arrival of the winter period, the roads are densely covered with a layer of snow and ice, such weather conditions have a very negative effect on the surface. What threatens the sidewalk tile and asphalt in the winter?

From sudden temperature changes, the asphalt coating, to a greater extent than the paving slabs, of course, but often slowly and surely collapses. There are dips, protuberances and cracks in which the grass begins to germinate in the summer, further destroying the surface. In this regard, on the roads every year, repairs are carried out, during which the replacement of individual damaged surfaces with new ones. On the paving slab, the temperature does not have such a deleterious effect, since this material has an increased resistance to both high and low temperatures.

All, probably, met in the winter of the yard keeper, diligently knocking down ice from the road surfaces. That's just such barbarous methods of fighting ice and bring irreparable harm to asphalt. The sharp metal of the instrument, piercing the ice cake, enters deep into the asphalt, thereby strongly coloring it. The damaged surface, contacting ice, reagents and other substances throughout the winter, is destroyed even more, and with approach of summer we already see on the place of asphalt only the crumbled mass. Sidewalk tile is an artificial stone and it is also subject to this "disease", potholes appear from the impacts with a sharp iron object, the surface layer is thoroughly destroyed, moisture is absorbed there, which starts to break down the structure when it freezes, and the individual elements of the tile become absolutely unfit for use. With the advent of spring, these elements can be replaced with new ones without much difficulty.

Another threat to paving tiles is the freezing of water in its pores, subsequently, the liquid, freezing, can begin to gradually tear the tile. To avoid this, in winter it is necessary to cover the surface with a special compound. If water gets between the seams, when it freezes, it starts to push out individual elements of the tile, from this appear bulges and the surface becomes not even.

Our severe winter, of course, adversely affects the road surfaces in the city , but, with proper care and treatment, all the damage can be minimized, and thereby increase the service life of our roads.
