Shnitt-onion is useful and decorative

Shnitt-onion is a perennial plant that can be grown for food, or it can be used to decorate the infield. It contains vitamin C, carbohydrates, carotene, proteins, sugars, phytoncides. This is a valuable dietary product, used as an antihelminthic and atherosclerotic.

In the people it is called the onion (soon to be born) and the chopped onion (the feather is cut). During the flowering period, the plant is very decorative, because it has beautiful inflorescences of red-violet and thick foliage. Schnittbuck has thin leaves-feathers and small bulbs. It tastes much more delicious than other varieties of onions.

To plant this wonderful plant, it is desirable to choose a site with fertile loose soil. It is undesirable to plant it in the neighborhood with beans, peas, cabbage. Places with sandy soil that does not retain moisture, do not fit it, it does not tolerate drought. Bow schnitt needs regular watering during the entire vegetation period.

Seeds can be sown under winter, in February for seedlings or in May directly into the soil. Preferably sow fresh seeds, the germination of the old is not guaranteed. The depth of the closure is 1.0-1.5 cm. The seeds are placed in the wells, in each piece 10-15. The distance between the adjacent holes in the row is 25 cm, between the rows of 30 cm. Seedlings are desirable for seeding or thinning, since the onion grows well, and in tightness the growth deteriorates.

When growing from seeds in the first year, the bush forms a small one, only 3-4 shoots. The next year it will grow stronger, the shoots will be about 20. Schnitt-onion can be grown in one place for 4-5 years. In the future, it must be divided and planted in another place.

In old sticks the pen is smaller, it grows worse and quickly fades. The division is preferably carried out in the spring, at the beginning of the growth of the leaves, or in the fall. If you divide in autumn, then the feathers need to be cut, leaving 6-7 cm. In each delenka it is desirable to leave about 10 shoots having bulbous thickenings and roots.

In food it is better to use young feathers that have reached a length of 20 cm. When the feathers grow more than 25 cm they become somewhat stiffer. In place of the cut after about 10 days, new ones are growing. Schnitt-onion is famous for the rapid growth of green mass. Cultivating it on the beds in the spring and summer period and in pots on the windowsill in winter, you can have fresh, useful greens all year round.

If the onion is grown on a feather, then the emerging inflorescences need to be removed. In a flowering plant, feathers for food do not fit, too hard. To constantly have a green onion for food, you must regularly cut off part of the feathers.

If you need to get seeds, then inflorescences can be left on some plants. When the testes become brown (this happens June-July), they need to be cut, dried on paper, threshed and ventilated.

Before frost all the feathers of onions are best cut off. In this case, in the spring, it will grow faster.

Growing this culture, we must not forget about weeding, loosening, regular watering and feeding.

You can grow as an ornamental herb onion plant. The photo shows well its attractiveness for landscape design. Especially it is beautiful at the time of flowering.
