Pansies: unpretentious beauties

Pansy is a simple garden plant belonging to the family of violets. Virtually all of its varieties are perennials, but some of them can be grown in one place for not more than a year.

The stems of this herbaceous plant have a triangular shape, inside are hollow. The height of the pansy pansy can reach up to twenty-five centimeters. The leaves are round-heart-shaped, on the stems are arranged in order. The plant has a branched, fibrous root system.

Flowers of pansies are characterized by five petals: two of them are located on top, two - on the sides, and one - from below. The lower petal at the base forms a spur - a hollow tube intended for storing nectar. Only those insects that have at their disposal a long proboscis can get nectar from a spur.

The flowering of the pansies usually lasts from the beginning of the end of April to September. As a result of flowering, a fruit is formed - a small box containing many seeds. The final maturation of the fetus leads to its rupture into parts. In this case, the seeds scatter in different directions, so that the next year they will germinate and give life to new plants.

Maintenance and care

There are a lot of unpretentious garden plants. These include and pansies. Care for them is not particularly difficult. But remember the elementary rules of cultivation of these plants still need.

It is recommended to grow pansies in open and sunny places. Plants develop well in the shade, although the blossom is not so beautiful. Primer for pansies is preferable wet and loose. In addition, it must regularly make fertilizer - ammonium nitrate or superphosphate. But do not use fresh manure under any circumstances! This will only harm plants.

Reproduction

Pansies can multiply both by means of seeds and by propagation by cuttings. To plants began to bloom in early spring, the seeds should be sown before the summer. To get seedlings, they are sown in even rows (the distance between them should be 10 cm). Approximately a week later, the first shoots appear, and after half a month they are transplanted to a permanent place. And next spring the plants will please you with their abundant flowering.

If the appearance of your pansies is annual, then the seeds should be sown at the end of February. To do this, in the low wooden boxes pour the soil, sow the seeds and put in a shaded place. The substrate should be kept moist and the temperature should be approximately 20 ° C. When the seeds germinate (and this happens after two weeks), the box needs to be put on a sunny place. In late May, young flowers are planted in a permanent place.

Cuttings propagation is another way of reproduction, planted by such plants as pansies. Flowers (adult plants) should be divided into several parts in the beginning of summer. As cuttings, non-flowering lateral shoots are most suitable. They should be carefully cut and planted in a substrate (a mixture of peat and sand). After planting the soil must be constantly maintained in a wet condition. A month later the cuttings will take root system, and they can be planted on a permanent place.
