The flower of the pansy, which is called violet by scientific name, is included in the large and multicolored family of violet. It is often called viola. This beautiful plant is known since the time of the ancient Greeks and Romans, in the myths of which there are stories of its origin. In the Middle Ages, the flower of the pansy was one of the symbols of Christianity. In addition, he was called the violet of the Holy Trinity, identifying his three petals with three holy faces, and the spot in the middle - with the all-seeing God's eye. The plant was in love with the symbol of loyalty. Where did the Russian name come from - it is not known, although you can guess by looking at the enlarged photo of flowers. Pansy is really a bit like the eye, but it concerns mostly large and improved varieties. There is a tradition that such a gentle name for viola was due to the sad story of a young girl who did not wait for the return of a loved one.

According to its biological characteristics, the pansy flower is perennial, however, as a rule, it is grown as a biennial. In the first year the plant forms only the leaf portion, and blooms only on the second. Its height is up to twenty centimeters. On the upright tetrahedral stalks are rounded or oval leaves with serrated edges.
Flowers in the pansies are located on elongated pedicels, they are large enough and reach a diameter of up to 12 cm. Their beautiful coloring is especially striking.

In many gardens you can see pansies. Flowers, the cultivation of which does not require special work, very fond of the gardeners. The plant prefers a loose and nutritious soil, perfectly feeling itself in shaded areas. Optimum temperature for its growth is considered to be from 4 to 16 degrees. The main requirements that the flower pansy makes, are the constant loosening of the earth and the removal of weeds from it. Top dressing is best done once every three weeks with a water-soluble fertilizer.

There are a lot of varieties of this plant: these are monochromatic and bicolor groups, with an eye and without spots, trichromatic, and also motley, on which there are five dots, with corrugated petals, orchid color, having an asymmetric composition, and so on.

The flower of pansies multiplies in a seedling way. For seeds to rise well, they are planted in mid-July. They are obtained from trihedral boxes of plants, which after ripening crack. Collect them after they climb up on the peduncle.

Seedlings go out fifteen days after disembarkation. Sprouts do not tolerate direct sun, so they must be shaded.

The flower of a pansy contains in its composition essential oils, as well as unique microelements. Healers, who are well aware of its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, widely use it in the treatment of diseases that are associated with bronchial secretion. Infusion from this violet facilitates the excretion of phlegm, being an excellent expectorant and diuretic. In addition, the flower of the pansy is rich in such an active ingredient as violakvertsetin, known for its anti-inflammatory effect. Preparations based on this plant reduce vascular permeability.
