Authors of works

This composition is among the most common and occurring in other cities. The date of its installation is 2006. The installation site is the 50th anniversary street of the Belgorod region. The janitor has a broom in his hand, the company is sitting at his feet and attentively looking at pedestrians of decent size. Townspeople and visitors try to pet the animal, so its head shines thoroughly. Belgorodtsy also feed the cat. And if he does not pay attention to the yummies, his fellow-countrymen take up their work. Also, the sculpture is distinguished by the presence of traditional attributes of this profession: apron and cap.

The weight of the bronze sculpture is 175 kilograms. The height is almost two meters. It was manufactured within three months, the casting was made in Kiev.

Despite the lack of documentary evidence, it is this historical personality that is attributed to the founding of the city. The decision to install the monument was made in the 1990s. The sculptor Vyacheslav Klykov worked on it. Construction was conducted under the leadership of Vasily Boltenkov.

Description of the monument

The figure of the prince was installed on a pedestal 14.5 m high. The composition itself consists of three tiers: on the first two there are reliefs depicting saints, on the third - the prince's figure. The prince stands firmly on the laurel wreath, it is as if he exalts him above everything around him. With his right hand, Vladimir holds the cross. The left is a shield, as if saying that he will do everything to ensure that the Slavic peoples are under reliable protection.

To build a monument, used more than a half tons of copper. Funds for its construction were collected thanks to voluntary donations and sponsorship. Near the monument there is an observation deck, having risen on which, you can enjoy the beautiful views of Belgorod.

Monument to the victims of Chernobyl

Chernobyl accident ... According to some reports, the number of victims in it exceeds the number of victims of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. We will meet with its consequences for a long time. On April 26, we not only remember those who died, but also thank the participants for their salvation. Usually in different cities there are rallies timed to coincide with this date. Monument to the victims of Chernobyl in Belgorod is installed on the avenue of Bogdan Khmelnitsky. The sculpture was made by A. Shishkov in 1998. At the man standing on a pedestal, the head is thrown back and arms are stretched. As if, making incredible efforts, he holds back some danger behind his back. Behind him are two stone "sails" with inscriptions on them. Curves curl between these figures, their peak is crowned by a schematic image of the atom. Copper is used to make the sculpture.

Afghanistan: pain does not abate

We continue the conversation about the monuments of Belgorod. The next object, to which we will make a virtual trip, is a memorial complex to those killed in Afghanistan.

The date of the appearance of the memorial is 1995. The place of its installation - next to another memorial complex of Belgorod - the museum-diorama of the Battle of Kursk. The author of the work is Anatoly Shishkov. Eighty-five - that's how many townspeople have not returned from a local war. Hundreds of people were injured and eventually remained disabled. The total number of residents of the city, past the Afghan war, is almost three thousand.

The composition consists of a rectangular cube, in which there are input arches. In the center of the structure are suspended bells, symbolizing mourning. The memorial is crowned with a large cross (black marble is used for its manufacture). Also in the center of the cube are placed commemorative plaques with the names of townspeople knocked out on them, who did not return from Afghanistan. In the evening and night time, the backlight turns on. Every year on February 15 near the monument are held rallies.
