Saltykov's estate: history and description

The Saltykov estate is an old architectural building, which is located in the Moscow region. It is located in the village, which was on the border of three provinces. People said that the village was on the gathering (or at the corner), which was reflected in the name of this settlement. Here was built the Church of the Savior-Transfiguration, which is the main attraction of the complex.

Historical reference

For the first time the village was noted in the scribe book of the 17th century. The estate, located here, belonged to the well-known Russian satirist writer Mikhail Evgrafovich, who was born here and lived for ten years. But later he did not forget his native place, periodically calling in his native village, the image of which was imprinted in one of his famous works.

Saltykov's estate is a unique monument of the Russian noble life of serfdom, which is reflected in the current composition of the museum located here. It includes a manor house, a landscape park, as well as a family graveyard of the famous writer's family. Of particular interest are objects of everyday life of the family, which give an idea of the living conditions of noblemen-landlords of the first half of the 19th century.

Church

The main architectural landmark is the Church of the Savior-Transfiguration. It is made of stone and is surrounded by a fence. In the church there is a bell tower and corner towers, which are made in the style of classicism with baroque elements of the late 18th century. In the first half of the next century, a refectory and a three-tiered bell tower were added.

This beautiful church, undoubtedly, is the main decoration of the architectural complex. The Saltykov estate also attracts visitors by the fact that it has a chapel, a mile post and a holy spring.

Other attractions

The estate has a beautiful park with magnificent plantings. Lime alleys give the area a special poetry and beauty. In the 19th century ponds were an integral part of the rich aristocratic estates. Saltykov's estate was not an exception. Visitors will undoubtedly be attracted by a beautiful view of well-kept ponds in the frame of the alleys. Historians may be interested in a memorial stone installed on the territory of the estate in honor of the presence here of the famous Russian scientist D. Mendeleyev, who in 1887 landed in this place in a balloon after the flight, during which he studied the eclipse of the sun.

Fate of the estate after the revolution

The estate of Saltykov-Shchedrin in 1918 passed into the ownership of the state: it was taken over by a special commissariat, which was engaged in territorial sections in the district. However, the special commission on agriculture allowed the descendants of the writer to stay in the estate, since one of them fought during the Civil War, and the other was an advocate of Soviet power. The estate was built school and tea, which lasted for long, since very soon the house was badly damaged in the fire. From the fire, only the garden and the remnants of the basement survived. Also managed to save the side wing and small outbuildings.

Over the 20th century, the image of the estate has undergone quite a lot of changes, but visitors to the complex can still see a lime alley and ponds that neither time nor fire touched. So, the park, Saltykov's estate demanded urgent renewal measures, and such measures were taken in the second half of the last century.

Creating a museum

In the 1950s and 1970s, the Soviet authorities worked out a plan to create a museum on the site of the estate of a famous writer. At first, his bust was installed here, and a year later, dedicated to the writer, it was decided to recreate the historical-memorial complex on the site of the house. First of all, they restored the church and recreated its appearance as much as it had in the 18th century. Then a special art group took up the interior, which is noteworthy in that it recreates the image of "poshekhonskaya antiquities". At present, there is a question of restoring the writer's house, where the museum itself is planned to be moved.

Holidays in the estate

In 2017, in one of the most beautiful places in the capital, it is planned to hold a prom night. The Masquerade Ball at Saltykov's Estate promises to be an unforgettable sight for all its participants: the organizers promise to recreate the spirit and atmosphere of the golden epoch of the nobility. This building was erected in the 18th century on land owned by Count Saltykov. After a while this building was rebuilt for an invalid house, then an institution of noble maidens was created here .

In Soviet times, a cultural center was organized here, and now there is a museum here. Nowadays, young people like to organize holidays here, as the building has preserved the interior and atmosphere of Imperial Russia. The original landscape design and luxurious interior decoration made this place popular not only among young people, but also in adults. Not only graduation balls are held here, but also weddings.
